Today, many students from 86 and 87 were out on a Tour Band thing...
So students who were at school had the opportunity to start painting the railway benchwork and assemble and paint a few mountains...
Hopefully, ALL students will have their "Histoire, Chapitre 6" done by Monday. Some students came to ask for extensions but honestly, most of both classes thought they escaped the actual due date which was today because of the Tour Band!
Anyway, the memory key net drawings need to be completed for Monday!
Monsieur Wanie assigned the three assignments that go with the new French novels. These are important assignments this term!

Jeudi, le vent et la neige.
This morning, students worked on and got some help in "Histoire", the "Chapitre 6" is due tomorrow!
In the afternoon, students started reading one of three new French novels. The accompanying project outlines will be handed out and posted tomorrow. This is a three week assignment and will be form major component of Term 3's French mark.
Monday is the day for the "Galop du Templier" test... it was supposed to be tomorrow but the Tour Band is out all day...
The nets of the memory key part of the railroad project are also due on Monday. Both classes will be going to the library on Tuesday to work so it's a must to get it done!

Mercredi gris.
This morning, students continued building the 3D houses and appartment buildings...
In the afternoon, students in both classes went to the library to work on the memory key assignments and present their first ideas. The next step would be to make a net or a sketch in 1:87th scale, present that and then get permission to build it.
Hopefully students didn't forget about the "Galop du Templier" test that will be soon!
Oh, and the "Histoire, Chapitre 6" that's due Friday!

Mardi, la neige, et il pleut!
This morning, 87 started working on the 3D houses. They worked well and the little buildings look great! Next, there are a few appartment blocks which a few students started and next week we'll add some industries... 86 continued later in the afternoon with the 3D buildings... a pretty slow day...

Lundi, la neige arrive!
Today, 86 and 87 worked on the "Histoire" chapter. Students read an excerpt about James and Amelia Douglas in order to better understand why James Douglas is widely considered to be the "Father" of British Columbia.
Monsieur Wanie finally got arount to correcting the "Chapitre 7 et 8" French folders with class 87. It's 86' turn tomorrow.
Hopefully 87 will have their "Memory key assignments" completed for tomorrow, we have library time scheduled!

Monsieur Wanie reviewed the "La Nuit Mouvementee De Rachel" test with 86.

Hopefully everyone will have a great and safe weekend!

Jeudi, un peu de vent.
Today, Monsieur Wanie had discussions with both 86 and 87 in preparation for the latest novel test on "Le Galop Du Templier".
The benchwork for the class-room railroad at the back of the class is complete, so students will have to get the planning assignment completed for Monday so the rails can be put down and industries built up.
The latest "Histoire" chapter has been assigned:
"Histoire, Chapitre 6"
P154-181
Questions:
VTC: 1-6

Mercredi, quelques flocons de neige.
This morning, a few students handed in their "Histoire Chapitre 5" assignment that was due yesterday.
Students worked in groups on their French novel, today was the last day for that before Monsieur Wanie has the class discussion followed by the quiz... actually, Monsieur Wanie got through a part of the discussion on "Le Galop Du Templier" with 86 in the afternoon... More tomorrow!
Students did some more brainstorming about the railway project. And Monsieur Wanie gave out a short assignment in preparation for making the "Big Plan".

Mardi!
Maybe someone caught the fact that yesterday was "Louis Riel Day" in Manitoba... Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Never mind...
Anyway, Monsieur Wanie got the old Dell tower clunker of a computer working so class blog posting is back up! Of newsworthy: reports are coming up soon! Hopefully, all students have their work in order, assigments in, projects completed, presentations presented, positive attitude displayed...
The class railway project will be getting underway, Monsieur Wanie has made some decent progress on the benchwork, now students will have to get going on the planning end...

La journee en famille!
So, today is Family Day!
Hopefully, everyone is having a great long weekend!
Just a quick explanation regarding the lapse in blog posts... Monsieur Wanie's computer is toast. It likely won't be fixed for another week or two! So, this post will have to do for a bit...
Don't worry though, your thoughtful teacher managed to get all the second term reports completed by using a friend's computer. There are many great marks in both classes!
Regarding the goings-on last week: There have been some fantastic Spy Project presentations! Students, Monsieur Wanie is proud of you and all the hard work work you have put in to them!
This coming week will see students start on the second reading book, we'll be reading this one a bit differently than the last, just to mix it up a bit (and maybe make it a bit easier). We'll be starting the next "Histoire" chapter, where we get further in to the Canadian colonization of the West. As well, students will be drawing up some plans for the classroom railway/industry/art project.
So we should be looking at a few weeks with a bit less pressure than that which students have been going through lately...
See you all in class!

Lundi, il fait beau!
So, it is a busy Monday!
All spy project presentations were due to be presented today!
There have been some absolutely terrific presentations! Clearly, students researched their subjects well and used their imagination to the fullest! Congratulations to everyone thus far! Your hard work will pay off on this term's report card!
To answer some of the blog questions:
>Kyle, pictures are pictures and they don't count in the writing.
>Nicolette, yes, you and Monica need to present your parts.
>Isabella, yes, I will be helping with your "Histoire" and possibly extending the due-date because of how long all the presentations are taking.
>Winnie, you can go over time a bit, but 10 minutes over is too much.
>J-C, we'll see about extensions on a case per case basis, come in and talk.
>Lucas, watch yourself man, or you'll end up in the office for comments like that! Monsieur Wanie was up 'til 2 writing good things on your report cards!

Vendredi, beaucoup a faire!
Wow, so there are a lot of things on the to-do list today and for the weekend. Here goes!
Students in 86 and 87 did a great job of participating in the "Histoire Chapitre 5" discussion. 86 has had their unit due-date pushed back to the original date of Tuesday, Feb, 16th.
Students who had their French folders completed for today received a full bonus mark. The folders will all be collected on Monday...
Monsieur Wanie understands that there are a lot of things to do and that kids are "feeling the pressure". It's a tough time. The second term reports are earlier this year and it has forced Monsieur Wanie to tighten up deadlines he would much rather take more time to get to. Hopefully, the pressure will last for only a few more weeks and then term 3 will be a bit more "chill"... Students, please grit your teeth and do your best!

Jeudi, il fait beau et froid!
Today, students in both 86 and 87 completed the "La nuit mouvementee de Rachel" test. It was a double period test for both classes. Students who finished before the time was up worked on the the French folders that are due tomorrow and "Histoire Chapitre 5".
86 had their homework checked and Monsieur Wanie had a little discussion with them about their recent chatty behaviour and lack of focus... It's tough being a grade 8 isn't it! Students: be attentive to your due-dates, to your attitudes and to school protocol!

Mercredi, zut, 2cm the neige...
Okay, today was "rock and roll"... students were excited and it was a difficult job getting through the review of "La nuit mouvementee de Rachel" for the test tomorrow. Students, the test will be long and tough, bring your best attitude to class!
The "Histoire Chapitre 5" due-date has been changed for 86 a week forward to Tuesday, Feb 9th. This is because 86 has been wasting a bit of class time lately, a clear indicator to Monsieur Wanie that the time lines are a little too loose!

Mardi, la journee de la marmotte!
Tomorrow, students in both classes will have their lecture with Monsieur Wanie on the French novels in order to get ready for the test this Thursday, Feb 4th.
The "Histoire Chapitre 5" due date is Tuesday, Feb 16th. This is a firm due date.
Yesterday, class 86 had their first pool period. Just a reminder that students who are missing pool for any reason must have a signed note from home. Failiure to have one may count against the gym mark by up to 20%.
Today, both classes had an opportunity to do some group-work on the French novels... Monsieur Wanie went over the questions for the latest "Histoire, Chapitre 5" for the discussion tomorrow.
