Mercredi, la tempete, peut-etre?

Today, students handed-in their "conte rendu", switched up their French reading books and had a silent reading period.

As well, students noted the two latest "Tex and Tammy" web pages on "avoir" and "faire" expressions, that need to be completed for Monday.

Monsieur Wanie lead a brief discussion and assigned a chart and four questions on economic systems, quality of life and the cycle of poverty... due-date TBD.

And congrats to Micaiah for that rap at the Black History Month assembly! Good job kid!

Mardi, le gris...

Today, Monsieur Wanie took several periods to have a discussion with classes 86 and 87 about their "Histoire" chapter. Hopefully students found the discussion helpful. It was great that so many students participated so well.

Students, remember:
1. Your book report is due tomorrow.
2. If you need more time to use the "Histoire" textbook, come in early.
3. Tomorrow the new "Geo" assignment will be discussed and a due-date given!

Monday, February 27, 2012

Lundi calme.

Today, Monsieur Wanie handed-back the "A travers les ages" "Geo" assignment as well as the first book report. Most students did really well, there were some terrific pieces of work! It was clear some students put lots of thought and work into them!

As well today, students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 6" assignments due on Friday. Tomorrow is the chapter-discussion period. Students, get ready to do some note-taking!

Vendredi, la neige et la pluie, mais pas de tempete...

So, Monsieur Wanie was back at work today. It appears as if some students caused quite a fuss yesterday with Ms. Anastassiadis. There will be some detentions at lunch today! Students: when assigned periods to work on your assignments or projects, that's what you are to do! Several students said that they were finished all their work when in effect they had much to do! What gives?

Anyway, today, students were assigned their latest book report due next Wednesday. Everyone started working on the 25 "vocabulaire" words.

And there's the latest chapter in "Histoire" to complete too! So students began (because not much got done yesterday!) working on it. The due-date is a week today!

Mercredi, le soleil et le vent.

Well, today was the second day Monsieur Wanie had scheduled to take his class (in this case, 86) to see the opera "Sanctuary Song". Despite some disrespectful chatterboxes who would not quiet down during the performance, it was a decent performance. Monsieur Wanie's favourite part had to be when Sydney met up with her old friend Penny at the sanctuary...

In class today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the next chapter in "Histoire", see below.

"Histoire, Chapitre 6"
"Les sujets du roi George s'etablissent"
P154-181
VTC#1-6, 9
ATC#2 cover page
a rendre vendredi le 2 mars

And students had some time to work on it as well as do some reading of their French reading books...

Tomorrow, Monsieur Wanie will be absent but there's a busy day planned for students... Hopefully, no-one will get in trouble or cause a fuss!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Mardi, la pluie arrive...

This morning, Monsieur Wanie walked to the Wychwood Car Barns with 87 to see the opera "Sanctuary Song". It was a pretty decent performance. That Jeremiah guy had a pretty big voice! Tomorrow morning, it's 86's turn to see the performance.

In the afternoon, both 86 and 87 handed-in their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments and had a period to read their French reading novels.

Vendredi, les entrevues.

It has been great to meet with all the parents who came by to discuss students' progress this term. Thank you!

A short note to students: You're all good kids! (Don't let that go to your heads though.) Be sure to keep on top of assignments and due-dates, continue to focus in class, come in early for extra help or extra time with the textbook if you need it, keep track of your to-dos in your agenda and visit the blog once a day, participate in class discussions, and don't procrastinate. Keep up the good work, June will be here before you know it. Oh, and wear a helmet on your bike or skateboard... and stay away from drugs and alcohol... and look both ways before crossing the street... and don't play with matches... and for heaven's sake, be nice to your parents!

As well: Family Day Monday is called Louis Riel Day in Manitoba. Get bonus points for telling us why...

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Jeudi, voila la pluie...

So today, Monsieur Wanie assigned a further three questions for the "Sustainable development" assignment. The due-date is Friday, February 24th.

Students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments so as not to have homework over the Family Day weekend. Many students came up for extra help. Katie found a neat website with some interesting information on Riel and historical information on Manitoba.

Here's the link to the homepage:

And the page about Riel and Scott: http://siamandas.com/time_machine/PAGES/early_manitoba/THOMAS_SCOT.htm

Be sure to read with a critical eye. Some points of view may be flawed, biased or may not express the entire truth! Especially what you read on the internet!

Mercredi, ou est le soleil?

Today is the first day after report cards were sent out. Hopefully all parents and guardians who wish to have interviews at Winona have signed up online or with teachers personally.

In the morning Monsieur Wanie collected forms and cash for "The Sanctuary Song".

As well, students had a class discussion on "Sustainable development" and Monsieur Wanie assigned a project that encourages students to reflect on land use and bringing agriculture to the city.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Mardi, la Fete de la Saint Valentin.

Today, students had their Valentine'o'grams delivered... that always causes some excitement. I'm unsure as to why there wasn't as much excitement over the report cards, which were also handed out today!

In other news, students are slowly bringing in the $10 for the "Sanctuary song" field trip...

Regarding class, students did some reading of their French reading books. Students then worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments.

In the afternoon, Monsieur Wanie had a discussion with students about the choices they're facing lately, and then handed out the report cards...

Monday, February 13, 2012

Lundi, le retour du soleil!

This morning, students handed-in their book report assignments and began reading their new French reading books...

Later in the day, students began working on their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignment.

Not a terribly interesting day but one in which students got a great deal of work done!

Friday, February 10, 2012

Vendredi, le gris et la neige est de retour...

Today was the due-date for both "Histoire, Chapitre 4" and "Geographie- les gens au travail". Students handed-in their work and Monsieur Wanie assigned and explained the next "Histoire" unit: "La colonisation de la Riviere Rouge". Monsieur Wanie conducted a lengthy overview and discussion of the chapter. Students participated actively and began working on answering the questions and researching the chapter.

Jeudi, encore une belle journee ensoleillee!

Another sunny day today! In class, students had a couple of periods to work on their "Histoire" and "Geographie" assignments due tomorrow. Some students discussed working conditions in the garment industry for the "Geo" assignment, others went to the library to do some research. Others came for help on the "Histoire" assignment. Some students worked on their book report due Monday.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Mercredi, il fais frais mais au moins il fait soleil.

Today, Monsieur Wanie had a discussion with students about how their "Geographie" clothing assignments were going. Many students have done their research to find out about the working conditions in the garment industry... Most reports don't paint a pretty picture of the industry...

Students worked on their "Histoire" assignments as well. Some students were able to go to the library to research the question on why it took until 1949 for Newfoundland to join Confederation...

As well, we all had a visit from some administrators from other schools...

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Mardi, humide et gris.

Today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the book report assignment to be based on the French reading books students have been getting into over the last few weeks. The due date is set for Monday the 13th of February. In a class discussion, students worked to post success criteria for this assignment to the whiteboard.

Students also worked on the "Histoire" and "Geographie" assignments that are due on Friday.

Monday, February 6, 2012

Lundi, le beau soleil!

Today was the due date for the "A travers les annees" assignment. Students handed-in some terrific work.

As well, Monsieur Wanie assigned a new "Geographie" project about "people at work". Two questions designed for students to question and compare the state of working conditions in British North America in the 1860s and the working conditions of clothing manufacturing workers in the world today.

Students, check out this link...http://homes.chass.utoronto.ca/~reak/hist/prepoplf.htm

Vendredi, gris. Ou est le soleil?

Well, it's been a busy few weeks for students!

Today was the due-date for "Histoire, Chapitre 3", so students handed-in their assignments.

Monsieur Wanie assigned the latest "Histoire" chapter:
"Chapitre 4", "La creation de la confederation".

Here is a good resource on Newfoundland:

And another on Nova Scotia:

Students, it's true, Wikipedia does have some inaccuracies but nothing grave... keep in mind that the textbook is always the best resource!

Oh, and don't forget, the "A travers les annees" assignment is due on Monday!

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Jeudi, encore gris.

Well, another busy day...

Monsieur Wanie went over "Chapitre 3" in "Histoire" to bring some additional details and clarification to the discussion on confederation in British North America. Students have their chapter assignment due tomorrow and hopefully the class discussion will help students achieve a great mark tomorrow!

In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to work on the "A travers les annees" "Geographie" assignment that is due on Monday...

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Mercredi gris et humide...

Both 86 and 87 had a hard-working Wednesday.

In the three periods that students had in homeroom, students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 3" that is due on Friday, did some silent reading of their French reading books, and finally, everyone worked on their "A travers les annees" "Geographie" assignment.

Not a real exciting day but a very productive one! (Except perhaps for a few students from 86!)
