This morning was a really quiet one. Students had an opportunity finish reading the first of their French reading novels and to get started on their second...
Students need to remember that it's getting close to report card time and that if there are any assignments which still need to be handed-in, there is very little time left to do so. Monsieur Wanie spoke specifically to some students as a personal reminder that good grades are at stake! This is grade 8, it is the students' responsibility to be on top of the work assigned.
Another reminder, the "Histoire, chapitres 2,3,4" questions are due on Monday!
Also, 86, you have pool on Monday! There are no excuses! Pack your swim stuff now so you do not forget it!

Jeudi, un peu de neige et beaucoup de vent!
Today, students did some silent reading of the French novels.
Monsieur Wanie collected the "Histoire mots cles" that were due today.
There was a meeting for all grade 8 students with Monsieur Wanie and Monsieur Ferron... Hopefully lots of students will be able to take advantage of this opportunity...
In the afternoon, some students worked on their "Spy Project", others worked on the French folders and still others spent some time cleaning the class up for the grade 6 open house this evening.

Mercredi, froid et vent!
This morning, students in 86 and 87 handed-in their "Geo" assignments. It's great to see an almost full pile of folders!
Don't forget that the "Histoire Mots Cles" are due tomorrow!
Students had some class time to work on the "Chapitre 7 et 8" French folders. Monsieur Wanie went over the "Histoire" questions that are due on Monday with 87.
In the afternoon, students did some correcting of the verb tests. It looks like most students did really well!
86 had a chance to start reading the two latest French reading books: "La nuit mouvementee de Rachel" and "Le galop du templier"...
It was a busy day!

Mardi gris.
So, this morning, 86 and 87 did their French grammar tests. Most students did well but a few will be coming in early tomorrow for a "do over" given the appearance of cheating going on...
Students also received their French tests back, and in the afternoon, Monsieur Wanie went over them to make corrections and help students further their knowledge of the novels.
Everyone put together their new French folders... "Chapitre 7 et 8".
Monsieur Wanie gave 86 and 87 a "heads-up" about the Arowhon trip coming up in June. There will be a meeting and a hand-out on Thursday...

Lundi, la brume!
So, a big rainy start to the week!
It was a tough Monday for 86 and 87. They had their "Sonson et le volcan" and "La peur de ma vie" test. Hopefully all students did well!
Tomorrow will be the verb/grammar quiz. Students need to study all the UTexas assignments and make or bring in notes. Students should understand the importance of Monsieur Wanie's on-the-board help!
Here's the last UTexas homework for the test:

This morning, students did some re-arranging of the classroom, giving everyone a bit more "place pour les coudes" as a someone put it in an assignment...
Monsieur Wanie had classes take some notes in their agendas regarding the assignments that need doing before February 8th...
*the spy project
*the French grammar test
*the reading quiz
*the last chapters in "Geographie"
*the new "Histoire" unit
Yikes, that's a lot of "to-dos"!

Mardi humide.
This morning, students were given a two minute reminder lesson regarding traffic on Winona... Students, always assume the car driver does not see you! It will lessen your chances of getting squashed!
Students in both 86 and 87 had the opportunity to read the French novels assigned yesterday. It looks like this will be a tough unit for students not used to the focus required to read a novel in French!
During the latter part of the morning, 86 and 87 worked on some brainstorming for the "spy project". A few students had their "Geo" answers (that are due tomorrow) checked to be sure they were on the right path... looks good so far!
In the afternoon, students finished off the French folders... boy, it's taking some students ages!

Lundi gris encore!
Hopefully all students had a restful weekend because this week is going to be rock and roll! There is a lot of work to do! In particular for students who had not completed the "Histoire" unit, shoebox project or French folder...
Today, Monsieur Wanie called on students to show and explain their shoebox projects for evaluative purposes.
Students had the opportunity to work on the "Geographie" unit due on Wednesday.
B0th 86 and 87 started a reading unit based on two short novels, one written by an author from Martinique, the other by an author from Quebec...
And 86 were introduced to the oral presentation due just before the end of the term... it's a "French/Geographie spy project". Students may choose to report on 1) a Canadian example of one of the levels of industry or 2) a Canadian person, place or thing of historical importance. Firm due-date of Monday Feb 8th. That's 3 weeks from now!

Today classes had their homework checked once again... Some students are not checking the blog as often as they should, in other words EVERY DAY!

Lundi, gris, vent.
Today, Monsieur Wanie assigned "Geographie, chapitre 11". Students took notes on the chapter headings that will become this unit's folder. Students will not be answering any of the end-of-chapter questions, rather they will be summarizing an element of the chapter on migration they feel is most important. The unit is due on Wednesday, 20th January.
In the afternoon, students worked on their shoebox projects...
Students, you have verb homework! One page of 12 questions on irregular "ir" verbs due tomorrow! Bonus points to those who read the blog because Monsieur Wanie didn't mention this assignment in class! www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/gr/vir3.html

The chapter talks about British North America during the period between 1840 and 1860... The wheat and wood trade, the industrial revolution, slavery and the underground raliroad...
Students had a period to work on the French folder and another period to work on the shoebox project.
For homework over the weekend, 2 pages of 12 questions, (so that's 24 questions):

This morning, 87 worked on the "Mots cles" (key words) of "Histoire, Chapitre 1". Students maps were checked, as well as their French folders... Students were supposed to bring an empty shoe box to class, about 2/3 of the class forgot! Students: this is life in the fast lane, stuck behind grandma! Bring your supplies to class!
In the afternoon, 86 was able to start on the "Mots cles".
