This morning, both 86 and 87 did their "Geographie" "industry" presentations. Clearly, many students put a lot of effort into them. Lots of great work kids! As well, students had to hand-in their "Geographie, Chapitre 9" units.
Before school, only two students came in to hand in overdue "Histoire" maps. So Monsieur Wanie was forced to add in some pretty disappointing marks to the upcoming report cards!
In other news, students also continued working on "Histoire, Chapitre 1". It deals with the immigration of europeans to British North America during the mid 1800s, the industrial revolution as it influenced transportation in the colonies and slavery and the underground railroad...

Jeudi avant la journee de ski!
Ski day tomorrow!
Today though, was a busy one for students. Both classes have a tough "Histoire" chapter due on Wednesday next week. Before that, there's the "Geographie, Chapitre 9" unit and the bristol-board presentation, both due on Monday.
Hopefully everyone will have a great and safe ski day tomorrow, and will work over the weekend to produce some great presentations for next week.
NB Reports are out very soon. Students who have not handed-in their "Histoire" maps BEFORE 8:30 on Monday will not be recieving a good term mark! Oh, and it will go a long way if you hand in your overdue maps with a pack of sesame snaps for Monsieur Wanie to munch on while grading your late assignment!!!

Mercredi, gris encore.
So, 86 and 87 both worked very hard at their "Histoire, Chapitre 1" today. Groups made their presentations and Monsieur Wanie added a few important points to the discussion. Students then worked on their chapter questions that are due on February 2nd.
Last period in the afternoon, students attended a meeting in preparation of the ski trip on Friday. Hopefully, the weather will be nice!

Mardi gris, main pas aussi froid.
Today, students were busy as ever, even before the bell! Some were still catching up on the maps that are way over due BTW...
As well, 86 and 87 were working in small groups on the "Histoire, Chapitre 1" preparing a summary for the class.
And students in 86 had the pleasure of cleaning off the desks and tidying up for the grade 6 info-night this evening...

Today, students worked on their "Geographie, Chapitre 9". There are two parts, the oral presentation and the unit questions themselves.
Some students still had not completed the "Histoire" maps that were due today! Better get it figured out kids! Reports are coming up soon!
The "Histoire, Chapitre 1" questions were assigned, and will be due in a folder on Wednesday February 2nd. The questions are: VTC 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and ATC 5.

Jeudi = vendredi?
Today, 86 and 87 worked really hard to complete the "Histoire" maps.
They're due on Monday but students won't have the books to work from over the long weekend.
Reports are coming out soon, teachers are assembling marks and building comments. Students: if you have assignments that you have neglected to hand-in, get on it!
Students made more trees for the railroad, so Monsieur Wanie planted them... And have a great and safe weekend!

Mercredi, le verglas.
So today was very busy! Students in 86 and 87 had their graded "Geographie, Chapitre 7 et 8" and handed back.
Students worked on their "Histoire" maps.
And finally, Monsieur Wanie assigned the "Geographie, chapitre 9" oral project and hand-in assignment. Both are due on Monday the 31st of January. Questions 1 (oral presentation with bristol board), 2, 5, 6, 7, and 10.

Mardi gris, le grand froid est parti!
This morning, 87 had their last period of reading their "L'avalanche" and "Aventure en foret" novels. Last period before lunch, the class made more trees for the classroom railroad. Ideally, it will be even more presentable for the grade 6 night a week from now...
In the afternoon 86 worked on their maps, that are due on Monday.
Monsieur Wanie has almost finished the drawbridge. As soon as it's done, students can begin running trains in the mornings!

Lundi, le grand froid!
Hopefully, students had a great weekend and didn't freeze into popsicles on the way to school! It's a cold one out there!
Anyway, today was the due-date for the superhero assignment. Students were able to assess their peers' work before Monsieur Wanie did the actual grading. And then the "A" group's work was put up in the class while the "B" group awaits posting up in the cafeteria...
Students had the opportunity today as well to read their French novels, "L'avalanche" and "Aventure en foret", and to work on their "Histoire" maps.

Vendredi, le ciel bleu mais la neige arrive en fin de semaine.
Well, today, Monsieur Wanie didn't get to see much of either 86 or 87 due to pool.
In the morning, both classes handed-in their "Geographie, Chapitre 8". Students then either continued on their superhero portrait (Due Monday!) or their "Histoire" maps.
Hopefully, everyone has a safe and fun weekend. Snow on the way!

Jeudi, gris en matinee...
Today, students worked on their "Histoire" maps, they're due on Monday the 24 of January.
Students also worked on their Superhero assignment that's due on Monday the 17th of January.
There is a big push on over the next three weeks or so due to the fact that reports come out next month! Students, you need to keep your sights on deadlines and due-dates!
Oh, and to students missing detentions for Ms Sher, Ms Vandenberg or Ms Cosburn! Take care of your business! You don't want Monsieur Wanie to have to step in!

Mercredi, la mi-semaine et la neige.
So, this morning, 86 and 87 worked on their superhero art assignment. There are many very well done portraits out there! This year, Monsieur Wanie's two classes are very talented art-wise!
In the afternoon, all grade 8 classes trudged through the snow to get to Oakwood for the highschool tour... fun, fun!

Mardi, encore de la neige est attendue!
So, today was the big start to the "Histoire" part of the programme for the year. Students examined the first chapter that speaks of Prince Albert's visit to British North America in 1860. Students then began the first map in a series of 5 historical maps of BNA and Canada...
Students, remember that "Geo, Chapitre 8" is due on Friday the 14th of January, and that the full set of 5 "Histoire" maps are due on Monday the 24th of January.
Also note that Monsieur Wanie is coaching the swim team on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and may be a little late in offering extra help in the mornings. He'll arrive to class around 8:25 on those days...

Lundi, apres la neige, le soleil.
Today, Monsieur Wanie's classes worked on their "Geographie, Chapitre 8". Students engaged in a paragraph by paragraph reading/note-taking exercise.
Hopefully students have been checking the blog and following the links related to the chapter.
Students in 87 also worked on their Superhero assignment. 86 will get more time tomorrow...

Samedi, un peu de neige!
So, students are probably out tobogganing today, or at least they should be! It's nice and snowy out!
Anyway, here's a great youtube explaining the history of 200 countries over 200 years of development. It shows the effect of wars, the industrial revolution, AIDS, and more! Students, watch this video if you can. Pay attention to the axes (pronounced ax-ees) of life expectancy and income.
Copy and paste this link:

Vendredi d'une longue semaine.
So, today is finally Friday. Did it feel like a long week back or what!?
The day didn't start well for 87. Many students were late to class after swimming. Strange that it takes students more than 15 minutes to get changed! It's not like you're picking which outfit to wear to the dance!!! Get to class!
Anyway, class 86 continued working on their superhero art assignment and handed-in their "A l'aeroport" folders. Then in the afternoon, the worked on a short "Geographie" reading assignment. This particular unit talks about poverty in the world, so here's an interesting news bit for those who missed the new-found fame of Ted Williams...

Jeudi, le ciel bleu mais la neige arrive.
Today, students in 86 and 87 had a period to work on their superhero posters.
As well, Monsieur Wanie led a class discussion on the possible reasons poverty exists and the quality of life discrepancy between North America and Africa.
And Marci came in to talk to students about their high school choices, their applications etc.
Not a very eventful day, but one full of work and responsibilities.

Mercredi, le froid mais le ciel bleu.
Today, 86 and 87 handed-in their "Geographie, Chapitre 7" units... well most students did!
Anyway, both classes also started on their superhero art assignment, one class went to the library to use the computers to research their hero, the other class had the research to do for homework, due tomorrow.
As well today, students in 86 and 87 worked on a bristol board assignment for Mr Erlich. It was based on some questions and a discussion about students' needs in development as 13-year-olds and what an ideal middle school consists of... some really smart and some very interesting answers! What a fun assignment!

Mardi, deux centimetres de neige.
This morning, 87 began reading the second of two French novels.
Both classes had their "Geographie, Chapitre 6" handed back as "Chapitre 7" is due tomorrow!
As well, Monsieur Wanie held a class discussion on "Chapitre 8" about world patterns of rich and poor, Gross Domestic Product and the Human Development Index, explaining poverty by looking at the past. In this chapter, students will be looking further into weak economies and exploding populations as well as a case study on Sub-Saharan Africa...

Lundi, une nouvelle annee!
Hey, it's a new year... Hopefully, everyone had a great two weeks of time away from Winona. And now it's back to work! The school year is almost half done and reports come out in a little less than a month!
So today, students worked on their French folders, due on Friday; the "Geographie, Chapitre 7", due on Wednesday; and the reading novels!
This week, students start on "Histoire"! Yay!
Well, that's it for the first post of the New Year, welcome back everyone!
PS, we need this guy to come in and build us a proper doorway bridge!
He's cool and he really knows his stuff!
