Yay, Monsieur Wanie's back!
And students were thrilled to hear that he brought with him ANOTHER "Les Voyages de Gulliver" worksheet. Most are probably wondering when it will ever end! Well not today!
Monday is the due-date for the "Projet/Presentation d'Industrie Canadienne" so hopefully students will be working over the weekend to practice and perfect their presentations!

Jeudi, ou est Monsieur Wanie?
So, Monsieur Wanie wasn't at work today. Instead, Madame Quinn was in... Most students were able to complete "Test Numero Trois" of "Les Voyages de Gulliver". Tomorrow, all students will get another quiz on "Gulliver" and will have some time to work on the "Projet/Presentation d'Industrie Canadienne"... It was nice to hear that most students were getting the work done, with special mention of Caren, Vivian, Claudia, Juel, Tracey, Trevana, Noah and James!

Mercredi, la pluie en mi-semaine...
This morning was the due-date for the Projet d'Art! While a few students did not complete the assignment, those that did arrive to class were very, very well executed! It's obvious that students put a lot of time and effort into them!
Hopefully, students are getting the idea that it's "crunch-time" of the year! Monsieur Wanie is "on students' cases" if classroom protocol is not followed and "in their faces" if due dates are not abided-by! He's not being mean, he's just enforcing the fact that there's precious little time left in the year for students to demonstrate fully all the abilities that they have honed this year! It is Monsieur Wanie's secondary goal that all students be successful individuals! (The primary goal being students safety and well-being, obviously!)
The year-end is near! Students MUST keep working right up until the last day!
And that includes tomorrow, when Monsieur Wanie will not be at work. The third "Les Voyages de Gulliver" will be assigned and taken up on Friday! As students are aware, Monsieur Wanie has spies watching, so students should be sure to be working well for the supply teacher! (Whether it's Madame Norma or not!)

Mardi, un peu de vent!
Today, students in 86 and 87 were given their new French reading books... continuing with the theme of the classics in comics, the latest one is "Les Voyages de Guliver".
Students also had an opportunity to work on and hand-in the first chapter questions. People should be in early if they are not finished!
The Projet d'Art is due tomorrow. Hopfully all students are on top of things with respect to that1 It's a giant part of the term mark in art!

C'est lundi, le mois de la bicyclette!
So it's a sunny Monday, May the 25th. And it's bike month! Hopefully students are making an effort to ride to school!
Today, students in 86 and 87 had their first period to work on their Francophone Country Presentation. Most students' projects are coming along decently! Although there are some students who didn't bring their material to class or gave the responsibility to someone who was absent... Major project points were awarded to those individuals who were working well today!

Vendredi, un peu de brouillard!
Today was 86 and 87's first opportunity to work on the Canadian Industry project in class. Most students are progressing well. A reminder to students that a visit to the Toronto Archives might help in finding more information... Here's the Hewetson Shoe Company in Brampton, Ontario circa 1920... Part of Noah's family heritage. Cool huh? The building still stands and has been declared a heritage building recently. More cool!

It's a nice, sunny Tuesday and everyone's back from the long weekend!
Today, several students are out taking part in the city track and field championships, a great day for it that's for sure!
Students in 86 had a CASI assignment to work on for two periods, one this morning and one this afternoon.

Jeudi, la pluie c'est pour les fleurs!
Today started out grey and rainy and ended up sunny and windy... a perfect day to get some work done then! There are quite a few students who have not handed-in their folded paper projects! And a few who haven't made a good start on their "deuxieme test" of "Le Loup des Mers"! Better get a move on because the "troisieme test" questions need to be finished and in the folders by Friday afternoon!
No one from 86 or 87 was able to get the answer to the artist challenge posted yesterday... good luck for tomorrow!
Students are also reminded to get their "Grad comments" handed-in to Ms Romberg or there will be a blank space below their picture in the yearbook!
Another friendly reminder: Students: if you're feeling like Monsieur Wanie is "on your case and in your face" about assignments and behaviour, please keep in mind that there is only a month and a half of school left in the year, and that it's student's well-being and continued success that are most important to him! Get those missing assignments in and do not forget school rules and protocol!

Mercredi, 20C cet apres-midi!
This morning, students were given an art challenge... the beginning to a new art project. To start, students copied a list of artists, the idea is to figure out what they all have in common and come in early to win the challenge... Details to follow!
Monsieur Wanie and the class took up the first chapter questions for "Le Loup des Mers". Students were then given the questions to the second chapter and asked to work in groups of two.
Sheridan is in Florida... Monsieur Wanie forgot to ask her for a RonJon Surfshop sticker... : ( here's hoping she reads the blog and brings one back! Or at least more warm weather...

C'est mardi le 12 mai, 2009!
It looks like another nice and sunny day out!
Classes 86 and 87 worked diligently to get their folded paper projects finished, they are due tomorrow!
Today, students were also working on "Le loup des mers"... everyone received questions to answer on the first chapter.
Students should be working at home on their Canadian Industry presentations... and researching their Francophone countries

C'est lundi, le 11 mai, 2009!
It's Monday, and sunny...
Today, students in 86 and 87 were reminded that the term is nowhere near over and that this week, teachers will be focusing on getting after students who fail to follow the routines and protocols of the classroom and school... When it gets warm and sunny out, students tend to think that the year is over and that they can slack on their duties... Not so! Students, the next month is the last big push before year's end. Soon enough you will graduate and go to high school, but before that happens there is work to do!
So, today, students got together with a partner to begin reading "Le Loup des Mers", a graphic novel of Jack London's "The Sea Wolf". Students also worked on the folded paper projects that are due on Wednesday, May 13th.

Vendredi le soleil ou la pluie pour le weekend?
Monsieur Wanie Snax!
This morning, students had the opportunity to brainstorm on their Canadian Industry presentations. Students should think about how to make their presentation stand out. Use some imagination and explain how your industry contributes to the Canadian economy or global market using visuals and examples. Bring pictures, bristol board, manipulatives, elicit interest from the class by involving them in the presentation... maybe make a board game that students can play, or a Q&A for prizes that your industry produces... think outside the box!
Bon weekend tout le monde!

Jeudi, la pluie de mai!
Qui est ce Monsieur?
This is the look anyone would give in finding out that many students did not hand in their "Il fait quoi ton papa?" short stories on time!
This morning, students worked on their illustrated folded paper projects.
Hunter is on page 247 of his Artemis Fowl novel!
Connor reads the blog!

Mercredi, beaucoup de travail!
Today, 86 and 87 were fortunate to get a great supply teacher in Ms. Bardi who came in for Monsieur Wanie.
Most students worked well with special notes about Juel, Thomas, Alex, Lily, Vanessa, Martha and Cindy all having made the "Student Leaders" list! Good job!
Others, will be spending some extra time with Monsieur Wanie over lunch tomorrow!
A reminder that Monsieur Wanie's classroom is open early EVERY morning for students to come in and work quietly, get help, talk, plead for extensions etc...

Lundi, de retour d'un bon weekend!
Today, students were asked to get right into Creative Writing Mode and use some imagination in their short story...
There's a story behind this photo... ask Monsieur Wanie.
Most students have chosen their Francophone country, so there's some research to be done! Try Wikipedia, it's a fountain of great information!
Tomorrow afternoon is the Arowhon slide show for students and at 6pm in the staffroom for parents.

Vendredi, presque le weekend!
This morning, students in 86 and 87 signed up for their Francophone country... project details to follow!
The short stories based on "Il fait quoi ton papa" are due on Wednesday, May 6th! Students should do some work over the weekend... given that in class this morning it seemed like few were actually putting pen to paper! Spring is here but students need to remember that the year doesn't end until late in June!
Regarding the Canadian industry project: Here are some things to accomplish for Wednesday, May 6th:
1. Company name?
2. Explain exactly what they do.
3. Where are their installations located?
4. Can you explain how your chosen industry contributes to the growth of the Canadian economy?
5. Take one installation and find or take pictures of it.
6. Find a location on Google Earth or Google Maps and print it out
7. If you were to build it in 1:87 scale, draw a sketch of what it would look like.
This afternoon students were given a heads-up on the illustration project that will follow the "Il fait quoi ton papa?" assignment.
And yes, we are taking a banana bus to Arowhon! It'll be great, talk to your friends, listen to your iPod, look out the window and daydream...
