So, this morning, 86 had their discussion with Monsieur Wanie regarding the "Mots cles du Chapitre 3 en Geographie" (keywords) and were presented with their mid-chapter assignment as posted for 87 yesterday. Some students in 86 also had some extra time to work on their CASI assignment.
In the afternoon, Monsieur Wanie continued the "Geo" keywords with 86 and 87 and went over the chapter questions. 87 had some more time to work on the "three tiered drawing" under Monsieur Ferron's supervision last thing in the afternoon!

Mardi, une bizarre de journee!
Today, students in 86 and 87 spent some time discussing "Geo Chapitre 3" with Monsieur Wanie. He explained the mid-chapter assignment which is a "three tiered drawing over the ages". It's due on Monday, 5th October. Students were working well today, and seemed really focussed on turning out a decent project. Students could also view last year's assignments to get ideas as some were still posted in the outer hallway.
The weather was crazy out today, one minute it was raining, the next it was sunny!
In the afternoon, there was another fire drill, and 86 stayed an extra period with Mr. Shipinkas to do the CASI thing...

Lundi, gris et pluvieux...
What nasty weather it is this morning! And dark!
Anyway, Monsieur Wanie has collected the "Chapitre 2 Geo" assignments that were due, so there are two nice piles on his desk to be corrected.
Classes 86 and 87 are continuing with "Chapitre 3 Geo", the assignment and due-date are below.
Geo Chapitre 3
P46-65
Questions: 1-5, 10,13.

Vendredi, on court et on danse!
Well, today there wasn't much going on classroom-wise.
The school participated in the Terry Fox run at Winston Churchill Park. Monsieur Wanie and Monsieur Ferron took their classes the long way 'round. Some students may have noticed that Monsieur Wanie picked a route that took students by two of the four streams that city planners detoured into culverts in the early 1900s.
The afternoon was also one of fun for students at Winona, with the dance going on...
Hopefully all students will have a fun safe weekend and remember that "Geo Chapitre 2" is due on Monday!

Jeudi, ensoleille!
This morning, students worked diligently on the "Geo" chapter, some had questions for Monsieur Wanie, a good thing! Students, here's a bit of wisdom for you: Always ask questions... so you know now, what you didn't before.
The school had a "Hold and Secure" drill, not as exciting as it sounds... thankfully!
Students were given back their "Chapitre 1 Geo" assignments, most students did very well, Monsieur Wanie is proud of the work students have completed thus far.
A reminder to students who received a mark or note in red on the "Ratatouille" quiz or in their "Geo" stuff: You need to come in and talk to Monsieur Wanie about your score!
In the afternoon, students in 86 and 87 continued on their perspective drawing unit...
Not a really exciting day but sheesh, did it feel like everyone was hyped or what?!

C'est mercredi, la mi-semaine.
This morning, Monsieur Wanie handed back the Ratatouille quiz. Most people did very well, however he still went on a rant about the use of accents, reading the question properly, masculin and feminine nouns, his vs her concept in French...
Later in the morning, Monsieur Wanie worked with the class to come up with communal "Geo" chapter keyword definitions. In the afternoon, students continues with the keyword definitions and Monsieur Wanie outlined the chapter questions.

Mardi, la pluie ou non?
This morning, Monsieur Wanie came in to see a couple notes from the supply teacher on his desk. One was good news relating to 86 and one was very bad news relating to 87... so, Monsieur Wanie will be having a short lunch-time "meeting" with some students in 87...
Today, students were working on the key words from yesterday in "Geo, Chapitre 2" and the related chapter questions... Most students worked well yesterday, some are in hot water because they have nothing to show for two periods of class yesterday, so there is some catching up to do.
TTC Photo day was this afternoon, so students had the opportunity to get their student cards... hopefully no-one did what Monsieur Wanie did when he was in Grade 8: put his name down as "Ridy Culous"...
Anyway, students also had the opportunity to build on a previous art theme adding the concept of forced perspective to their cityscape drawing.

Aujourd'hui, c'est vendredi le 18 septembre, 2009.
A bit of a windy day, n'est-ce pas?
Today, 86 finally had a chance to finish watching "Ratatouille". The answers to the assignment are due on Monday! Monsieur Wanie went over all the questions in "Geographie" that are to be handed-in on Tuesday, September 22nd.
Students in both 86 and 87 had some class time to work on the "Geographie" assignment, the format of which, Monsieur Wanie outlined to 86 this morning and to 87 yesterday.
Les Sesame Snaps sont delicieux!PS: If you are a student in Ms Gesner's English class, check out her blog for an English test hint!
PPS: Students! Have a safe weekend! Wear helmets when you ride bikes!

Le soleil brille ce jeudi!
Today, students had a fire drill. Everyone in 87 did a great job of getting outside quietly and lining up by the power pole for attendance.
Both 86 and 87 had a chance to watch the rest of Ratatouille and finish up on the questions.
The due-date for the "Geographie" chapter 1 is Tuesday the 22 of September. Students must remember to type or neatly write their answers and present the assignment in a folder whilst incorporating something that makes it stand out, a picture, a map or something else original to make it "pop"!
Students should be checking the blog on a daily basis!

Mercredi, un peu frais ce matin.
This morning, Monsieur Wanie was having some technical issues with the old computer, but as soon as the DVD player and sound issues were cleared up...
Classes 86 and 87 had the opportunity to watch "Ratatouille" in French. It's a great animated movie about a rat who becomes a chef in Paris... Of course, there's no simple movie-watching going on at school! As such, students were given a list of 25 questions to answer in full French sentences in the notebooks.
Ms Ellen (aka Marcy) came in today to talk to 86 about her function as guidance counselor at Winona.

Mardi, bleu ciel!
Monsieur Wanie informed students of a little change in plans regarding the "Geo" texts... students will leave them in class and can sign them out at will. This will accomplish a few goals: Firstly, students will not have to tote around the weighty tomes; Secondly, students will still have open access to the texts; Thirdly, there will always be enough texts to go around.
This morning, students started work on the "Geo" chapter. It encourages students to think about population density and distribution, where people live and why and economic development.
Ms. Ellen (Marcy) came in to talk to grade 8s in 87 about her function as guidance counselor. Students had a short survey to fill out. Tomorrow, it's 86's turn.
Neat lowrider!

Students: Play safely on the weekend! Traffic still isn't used to everyone being back in the city from summer vacation!

Mercredi, il fait chaud!
Second day of school!
Students have started to bring in the money for the activity fee, agendas, locks, Monsieur Wanie's lunch... (just kidding about that last one!). 86 had a chance to find a locker and both classes have made an effort to bring in all the crazy paperwork the office requires.
Regarding assignments, students continued to work on their French rectangle assignment and their Canada maps. Some students are doing a great job of using some colour and adding in lots of detail!
Tomorrow students will have their first go at "Lecture en Francais", they will be reading a short story called "Il fait quoi ton papa?".

C'est la premiere journee de l'annee 2009/2010!
Wow, the summer by went quickly!
So it's a new school year...
Today, Monsieur Wanie's new 86 and 87 classes were given a few classroom rules. Lots of paperwork was handed out, mostly forms that need Parent or Guardian signatures. Students were handed their agendas and "Francais" notebooks. Those who had their locks were able to choose lockers. Monsieur Wanie is looking forward to getting all the "monies" for activity fees, agendas and gym shirts taken care of so the real fun stuff of learning can begin!
Students in 87 got a head-start today with work on a small French assignment as well as a "Geographie" map of Canada's provinces and territories.
Students, hopefully you are ready for a great grade 8 experience! Work hard, play hard, stay safe and have a great year!
Monsieur Wanie
