86 and 87 began their French program with some review of the "Present, Passe Compose et Futur Proche" of -er, -ir, and -re verbs. Then Monsieur Wanie lead a lecture on the "Imparfait" and students began a short 8-sentence assignment (due on Monday!).

Jeudi, une bonne journee au boulot!
Today was a good hard-working day!
86 and 87 handed-in their "folded paper projects".
As well, students began working on their "Geographie" program. Chapter 1 deals with where people live, population density and distribution. Students participated well in the kick-off class discussion on the chapter.
Tomorrow is Friday! Time to get the French program started!
PS Thanks to all students who have taken the time to check in on the blog! Good job kids!

Mardi, le retour du beau temps.
So, today students in 86 and 87 presented their "Inventaire d'interets". It was great to see that everyone had completed their first assignment!
Students in both classes now have their lockers assigned and their Winona agendas. On that topic, it is imperative that all students read and sign the "Code of conduct" contract. Ideally, parents and guardians have also read these parts of the students' agendas.
As well, for "homework" today, students were asked to "check-in" on the blog. It would be good if everyone checked-in by Monday of next week... and the "Folded paper project" should be finished off by tomorrow too!

Welcome, students, to the 2012/2013 school year! Be safe, work hard and have fun!
Today was mainly about getting some of the rules down, some information out and some introductions made...
Students worked on a first French "getting to know each other" activity... and were assigned another for homework, due tomorrow!

La ceremonie des finissants!
Well, we skipped a few days... to get to today, Graduation!!!
Monsieur Wanie handed-out report cards at the end of grad-rehearsal this morning and this evening...
...everyone looked great at Vaughan Road Academy. Monsieur Wanie proudly handed-out the diplomas to happy graduates. Hopefully everyone had a good time both at Vaughan and at Casa Abril or whatever "private" celebration they attended.
It was a great year, good luck in high school to all students from 86 and 87. Come by and say hello anytime!
This will likely be the last post of the year...
Wanie over and out.

So, we're back from a full week up at Camp Arowhon in Algonquin Provincial Park.
From all the feedback I have received, students had a great time! So did teachers!
Any comments about Camp kids?

Vendredi, vendredi?
Gosh, who even remembers Friday... There was an Arowhon meeting in the afternoon to give students a few reminders about Monday but other than that, Monsieur Wanie had meetings before and after school as well as at lunch so the rest of the day was a blur of "Tintin" albums...
Thursday, June 7, 2012
Jeudi, le soleil enocre et pas d'orages...
Today, students had lots of time to complete their 8th "Tintin" album questions. Pretty straightforward day...
Next week is the Arowhon trip, so everything is winding down for a week of the outdoors!

Mercredi, le beau temps. La pluie cet apres midi?
Today was the due-date for the "Projet d'art industriel". Students did an amazing job building scale models of the industry from their oral reports.
As well, students had a chance to finish-off their 7th "Tintin" album and begin their 8th!

Lundi, gris...
So, Monsieur Wanie was away on Thursday but it seems most students were working on their "Projet d'art industriel" and their "Tintin" as outlined on the day plan...
Today, the firm due-date for the "Projet d'art industriel" was posted: mercredi, le 6 juin.
As well, students worked on their "Tintin" albums.
And finally, students performed a much needed locker clean-out... stinky stuff!

Mercredi, finalement un peu plus frais.
Just a quick note of thanks to all the parents who came to the Arowhon slide show information night yesterday. Everyone, teachers and students alike, is looking forward to the trip!
In class today, students worked on their "Projet d'art industriel".

Lundi, le chaud dans la salle de classe.
Today students had a double period to make some headway in their "Projet d'art - industrie". There are some great ideas out there. Nice work so far Leo C!
Tomorrow, students will get some time to work on their "Tintin" albums.
Hopefully, it won't be so infernally hot in the classroom!!

Vendredi, encore chaud dans la classe!
Today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the last big art assignment. Sutdents are building a "false front" version of their industry for the classroom railroad. Many students have made a great start in this assignment already by the fact that they can use the images they printed out for their oral presentation.
Thursday, May 24, 2012
Jeudi, ouf, il fait chaud dans la salle de classe!
Wow, it's hot in the classroom!
Today, a few students came in early to present their "Projet d'industrie". Tomorrow before school is the last day Monsieur Wanie will even consider late presentations!
Students finished-off their 5th "Tintin" album and got started on their 6th.
As well, there was a massed-band practice...

Mercredi, le ciel bleu arrive!
Gee, today was a hot one in the classroom. I bet no one is looking forward to how toasty it's going to be in June!
Anyway, it was presentation-day for both 86 and 87. Students presented their "Projet d'industrie" oral presentaion. Most students did a very good job! Although an annoying 10 students in 86 were unprepared to present!!!

Mardi, une autre belle journee!
So everyone is back from the long weekend, safe and sound.
Students worked on the final touches for their "Projet d'industrie" (due tomorrow!) as well as their fifth "Tintin" album...
As well, students had individual meetings with Monsieur Wanie to touch base about term assignments in "Histoire" and "Geographie".
A reminder that (as has been the custom all year) if students require extra help, want to hand in overdue assignments or discuss assignment due-dates, they must come in before 8:30 in the morning.
Friday, May 18, 2012
Vendredi, une belle journee!
Today was the Science Fair so students from both classes were pretty spread out all over the school. As well, some students were working on the play/musical...
So, in class, students took a break and watched Avatar or Puss in Boots. Not a really stressful day...
Hopefully, everyone has a safe and fun long weekend!

Jeudi, un peu frais, mais du soleil...
Today, 86 was fortunate enough to go on a field trip to Tommy Thompson Park on Leslie St. Spit. The class planted aquatic plants and did some activities relating to Toronto water cleanliness and wildlife. And speaking of wildlife, we saw a deer, a rabbit and many birds.
It was a beautiful day so hanging out in the grass and eating lunch was almost like going for a picnic!
As per the timetable, 87 was at school in regular classes.
Bonus for homework, you'll know what to do!

Mercredi, la pluie et puis le beau temps.
Today, students didn't get much time with Monsieur Wanie given pool and the Science Fair and such... That said, students worked on their "Projet d'industrie". Some students worked in the library, other received help from Monsieur Wanie on Google Earth.
Students worked on their "Tintin" albums as well.
And 86 received a short explanation of the Leslie Spit story as well as a heads-up on the field trip for tomorrow.

Mardi, encore le beau soleil.
Today, students worked on their "Projet d'industrie". Most students have started building out on their core idea. A few students are struggling to find information. To them it is suggested that they scour the Internet and Google Earth to find a company and to be sure to find information on how the business relates to rail service. This is time consuming but not difficult!
As well, classes worked on their "Tintin" albums researching and answering their comprehension questions.

Lundi, le beau soleil!
Today, students worked on their "Projet d'industrie" assignments. Apparently, not a lot of work in 86 was completed on the Friday Monsieur Wanie was away. It's pretty upsetting that this close to the end of the year, on a project that counts for a lot of marks, that some students choose to not put forth their best effort. However, in 87, some students did a very good job researching their companies and figuring out how they are linked to the railway.
As well today, students worked on their 4th "Tintin" album.

Jeudi, un peu de vent, mais le soleil est bienvenue.
Both of Monsieur Wanie's classes worked, feverishly, on their "Tintin" albums and comprehension questions. Students should be working on their 4th album by the end of the day.
As well, Monsieur Wanie handed-out forms for the Quiznos Healthy Lunch Day, to be handed-back by Friday, May 18th.
Monsieur Wanie will be away tomorrow but the dayplan left for students includes one period of working on the "Projet d'industrie" and a second period of work on the "Tintin" albums.

Mercredi, le beau temps pour l'instant...
So this morning, students missed out on an Oakwood dance presentation. Monsieur Wanie made a scheduling mistake...
Anyway, students had to hand in their "Histoire, Dernier Chapitre" today. In 87, many more students came prepared to class than in 86!!
As well, students updated their folders and worked on their "Tintin" questions.
Students must have their "Projet d'industrie" stuff ready for tomorrow. They will be working on it a bit more seriously in the next few weeks...

Mardi, un peu de pluie.
Today, students had a period to put the finishing touches on their "Histoire" chapter due tomorrow.
As well, students worked on their "Tintin" comprehension questions.
And a few students were scared out of their wits by the buzzing of the fire alarm for the drill! Anyway, we managed, mostly, to get out of the building to line-up and have attendance taken in a quiet and orderly manner...

Lundi, encore une pleine semaine.
Today was another busy day.
It was the due-date for the art assignment. There are some great projects in the "to be marked" pile! Some students need to pay closer attention to due-dates as there were several that didn't get handed-in.
As well, Monsieur Wanie met with each student individually to go through the file-folders. Again, most students have all their assignments completed and filed. However, there are a few students who have some catching-up to do. "Histoire" assignments must all be filed by Friday, no exceptions.
Students, take note: Teachers are compiling marks for the report cards at the end of the year. There is less and less time to catch up on things you have missed!

Today, students worked on their "Histoire, Dernier Chapitre" as well as their "Tintin" albums and questions.
As well, 86 was assigned their "Projet d'industrie"-orale. The first check will be on Monday. Students, remember to bring some research you've done!

Jeudi, encore gris.
Today, students in 87 were assigned the "Projet d'industrie". Finally, students will be able to work on the classroom railroad. It's a big research/oral project that students will be able to incorporate into the design of some new scenery and rail for the class. Speaking of which, Monsieur Wanie's computer, the old one that runs the trains is on it's death-bed, if anyone has an old tower in their basement that they would want to donate to the class, please let Monsieur Wanie know...
Then, in the afternoon, students attended the concert run-through in preparation for this evening's performance...

Mercredi, le jeu de baseball!
Today was a bit of an organizational nightmare for the office but all in good fun! Students had a shortened morning, an early lunch and got on the TTC to go see the Blue Jays play at the Skydome! (Yes, I still call it the Skydome!)
Tuesday, May 1, 2012
Mardi, un peu gris.
So, 87 had an opportunity to watch the end of the "Tintin" movie.
As well, Monsieur Wanie outlined the art assignment that is due on Monday, May 7th.
And students in both classes cleaned-up and arranged their files, inserted their "Histoire, Chapitre 12" and stowed them back in the file-cabinet.
Students had an assembly during the last period of the day to make sure everyone was clear on the baseball game trip instructions for tomorrow...

Lundi, la pluie arrive...
Today was the due-date for the "Histoire, Chapitre 12". Most students handed them in, however others had varied creative excuses...
Monsieur Wanie decided that today (being a grey day out) would be a good day to put on the "Tintin" movie. Students are reading the albums in class and working on the comprehension questions in groups of two so it seems appropriate!
Note: Change to the art assignment due-date - Monday the 7th of May.

Vendredi, le vent arrache le drapeau!
Today, students were really rowdy today, no idea why. It just seemed like the whole day was spent at full volume! Very frustrating. Adding to that frustration was the fact that Monsieur Wanie spent a good deal of time today fighting with his computer in order to fill out the "543A-Student Support Forms"...
Anyway, in student news: both classes "worked" on their "Histoire, Chapitre 12" and "Tintin" assignments. (Quotation marks were used on the word "working" because students didn't really work as well as they could have!)

Jeudi, il fait frais mais beau dehors.
So, today students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 12" and "Tintin" assignments.
Monsieur Wanie conducted meetings with every student to discuss the highs (of which there were many) and lows (of which there were few) of their "Projet de livre". Students did some excellent work, showing their effort and imagination.
As well, Monsieur Wanie assigned the "At home art project", due Friday, May 4th.

So, the "Projet de livre" was due today! There are quite a few really cool projects in the pile to be marked!
Both classes began working in groups on the Tintin book assignment. Students will read all the albums and answer questions on each in teams of two. Later on, Monsieur Wanie has acquired the newly released Tintin movie for students to watch.

Mercredi, le beau temps en mi-semaine.
87 only had one period with Monsieur Wanie this morning, so there was only a small window of opportunity for students to get their "Projet de livre" sentences corrected.
Field trip for 86 in the afternoon! Students went with Monsieur Wanie to Rosedale Heights to see the musical, Oklahoma.

Today, students were given the details on the questions on "Histoire, Chapitre 11".
Monsieur Wanie helped students edit their French novel stories.
During the day, students worked away on both assignments...
Note: Students, the book assignment is due this Friday!!! And the "Histoire" chapter is due on Monday.
Note 2: New art project gets assigned on Thursday. Look up the artists from the list you copied into your agendas!!

Mercredi, deja la mi-semaine!
So yesterday afternoon was a bit of a write-off presentation-wise. Students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 10" while Monsieur Wanie attended a meeting about TLCP stuff...
Today, the last few presentations in 87 were given... and 86 began doing theirs given they missed the opportunity yesterday. There were some really great oral reports, many students chose to do theirs entirely in French and earn the bonus points!
As well, students cut out little pink t-shirts, wrote short slogans on them and affixed them to their lockers in support of anti-bullying day.

Hopefully everyone had a great long weekend and didn't eat too much Easter chocolate or Passover sweets!
Back to business in class... students started presenting their "Projet de pays en development". There were many excellent projects presented!

Mercredi encore un belle journee au boulot!
Today, most students had their forms and cash handed-in for the baseball game in May. Some students need to research the word "deadline". Get your stuff in on time!!!
As well today, Monsieur Wanie handed-back "Histoire, Chapitre 8", students put it into their folders and updated their table of contents. Next week we all look at the folders and students will be meeting with Monsieur Wanie individually to talk about their progress this term thus far.
Students were also given their "Yearbook grad comment" forms. Hopefully they all get filled out and handed-in to Ms Romberg, ASAP.
Later in the day, 87 had an opportunity to read their French novels. Hopefully everyone (in 86 too!) has finished theirs and is ready to do the book report next week.

Mardi, encore le beau soleil!
Today, a few students came in early to show Monsieur Wanie their "Post-war house false-front" assignments and research on their "Projet de pays en development"...
During the day, students worked at their "Histoire, Chapitre 9" assignment. Most students worked really well and are producing some great work!
Just looking at the row of house assignments along the front board, they look great! Monsieur Wanie went through all the assignment grades, the first, the peer, the self and the final and most students showcased some very original ideas and a marked improvement from the first to the final. Good job kids!

Lundi, le soleil et le froid...
Well, today, Monsieur Wanie only saw his classes for two periods each... It made for a short day.
That said, today was the due-date for the "Post-war, false front house". In 86, only eleven house assignments were handed-in. Monsieur Wanie listened to way too many lame excuses! Students, you need to get them in before 8:30 tomorrow morning or you will receive a grade lower than the one you'd like! Only sixteen assignments were handed-in in 87 but among them was Najat's... A pretty cool house, clearly a lot of work put into it! Check it out below!

Jeudi, toujours gris.
Wow, another whirlwind day at Winona!
Today, students handed-in their "Histoire, Chapitre 8" assignments. It seems that more than a few will be handed-in late...
Monsieur Wanie assigned "Histoire, Chapitre 9". The chapter talks about one of Canada's most important periods of growth, from 1867 through 1920. There was a class discussion on some of the questions and students got right down to business.
Tomorrow is sure to be a fun day. The Junior Achievement people will be in to present to students and lead them through activities all day! Several different teachers will be in to supervise in the morning and Ms Anastasiadis will be in during the afternoon... Hopefully, students will be at their most well behaved!

Mercredi, le soleil et ensuite le gris et le vent.
Was today a busy day or what!?
Students finished off their "post-war" peer evaluation assignment and were tasked with a new build-up in order to incorporate them into the classroom railroad. The new build-up is due on Monday, April 2nd.
Classes had their grad photos taken and had a bit of time to work on both "Histoire" and read their French reading books.
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
Mardi, il fait beau et froid!
Today, Monsieur Wanie gave a short lecture on "Histoire, Chapitre 8" about homesteaders in the West during the period between 1896 and 1914. Students began working on the questions that are due on Thursday! To get a great mark, students should include information from Monsieur Wanie's lecture, the chapter and student's own reflections in the unit assignment.
In the afternoon, students worked on a peer evaluation of the "Post-war house" assignments...

Lundi, le soleil, le froid et le vent! Joyeuse semaine, Monsieur Rowinsky!
This morning, students brought all their "Post-war house" assignments to class to hand them in. There are quite a few excellent projects! Many students incorporated different materials and concepts to include trees and gardens into their work. Good job kids! Tomorrow, there will be a peer evaluation period where we'll select the best ones for the railroad!
As well in the morning, students worked on their French reading books and reports.
And students had their progress check for their "Projet de pays en development" assignment.
Later in the day, Monsieur Wanie assigned the "Histoire, Chapitre 8" questions. Monsieur Wanie conducted a short discussion to preface tomorrow's unit discussion. Check the questions out below:

Finalement, c'est vendredi.
Today was a busy day for classes 86 and 87. Students did some organization, self and peer evaluation of their "Histoire" assignments. Monsieur Wanie has graded a ton of assignments lately. It really is good to see how much thought and effort students are putting into their assignments!
Students also had an opportunity to work on their "pre-war house" assignments! They are due on Monday!
Hopefully everyone has a great weekend!

Jeudi, encore le beau temps!
So, today, 87 had a double period to work on their "Histoire, Chapitre 7". Monsieur Wanie has observed that most students are doing a great job of researching the chapter in order to answer the questions!
Later in the day, classes worked on their "post-war house" assignment. There are lots of great looking projects on the way!
Here's a good link on the Dominion Lands Act for "Histoire, Chapitre 7".

Mercredi, une belle journee!
So, today classes 86 and 87 agreed on the hand-in date for the "Post-war" house projects to be Monday, March 26th.
As well, students worked on the "Histoire, chapitre 7"...
Students, we had been talking about and studying working conditions in developing nations. Here's a bit of awful news from a garment factory fire in Bangledesh: http://news.yahoo.com/workers-die-factories-used-tommy-hilfiger-003219691--abc-news.html

So, hopefully everyone had a great Spring Break!
It's back to work now! Monsieur Wanie had a short discussion with classes about how the toughest part of the year is past!
Monsieur Wanie assigned the new "Projet de pays en development". Students were to have made three choices of developing countries from this list:

Vendredi, presque les vacances.
Well, today was the last day of school before Spring Break.
Both 86 and 87 handed-in their "Tex and Tammy" homework as well as their "Geographie" assignments.
In the afternoon, students either attended the dance or went to the library.
Hopefully, everyone has a fun and safe vacation!

Jeudi, le gris et la pluie.
Today, students had a variety of things to work on.
Students read their French independent reading books, continued working on their "Geographie" assignment due tomorrow and worked for a bit on the post-war house project.
A few students helped Monsieur Wanie plant the trees students had made on the railroad. Hopefully, the week after the break, students will be able to begin making more trees and get into the next "Geo" assignment as it relates to the railroad!

Mercredi, le beau temps est de retour!
Today, 86 and 87 only had two homeroom periods.
Students worked on their "Geographie" assignment for the first period. Several students went down to work in room 17, while others came to ask questions in class and work quietly.
In the second period, students worked on their post-war house art assignment. Students were shading-in the windows and drawing-in the foundations and tabs...

It must be a full moon...
Today, classes worked, somewhat noisily, on their "Geographie" assignments that are due on Friday. Most students have some great work completed so far!
In the afternoon, students began another art assignment, building post-war era houses from a paper template. It's a pretty complex assignment, with small details and lots of careful colouring and glueing...

Lundi, le dernier froid?
This morning, 87 was assigned their new "Histoire" chapter.
As well, students in both 86 and 87 handed-in their "Tex and Tammy" assignment and the class went over them to check that everyone had the correct answers. 86 had their work done neatly and correctly for the most part. 87 needs to work much harder to get their assignments done to perfection and on time!
Later in the day, classes had an opportunity to work on the "Histoire" assignment due on the 19th of March as well as on the "Geographie" assignment due on Friday.
Monsieur Wanie assigned the latest "Tex and Tammy" grammar work to be written out in full sentences for Friday, March 9th:

Vendredi gris.
So, today, the tour band was away in the morning at Kiwanis, I heard they might have won, awaiting confirmation.
Both classes had an opportunity to make some trees for the classroom railroad. Only or 3 HUNDRED more to make! Students did well and 86 managed to keep the mess to a minimum, even cleaning up the bathroom or 87's mess this morning...
Don't forget to choose your developing country:

Jeudi, un peu de neige mouillee.
Today, Monsieur Wanie went over the "Geographie" assignments with students and had some more discussion about the elements involved. Students spent some time brainstorming, working in groups and using their keyword notes to write down their thoughts in preparation for building answers to the questions. The due-date is Friday the 9th of March.
Students also spent some time reading their French novels...
Note: the due-date for the "Tex and Tammy" grammar from the University of Texas is Monday the 5th of March.

Mercredi, la tempete, peut-etre?
Today, students handed-in their "conte rendu", switched up their French reading books and had a silent reading period.
As well, students noted the two latest "Tex and Tammy" web pages on "avoir" and "faire" expressions, that need to be completed for Monday.
http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/gr/virr3.html
http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/gr/virr6.html
Monsieur Wanie lead a brief discussion and assigned a chart and four questions on economic systems, quality of life and the cycle of poverty... due-date TBD.
And congrats to Micaiah for that rap at the Black History Month assembly! Good job kid!

Mardi, le gris...
Today, Monsieur Wanie took several periods to have a discussion with classes 86 and 87 about their "Histoire" chapter. Hopefully students found the discussion helpful. It was great that so many students participated so well.
Students, remember:
1. Your book report is due tomorrow.
2. If you need more time to use the "Histoire" textbook, come in early.
3. Tomorrow the new "Geo" assignment will be discussed and a due-date given!

Lundi calme.
Today, Monsieur Wanie handed-back the "A travers les ages" "Geo" assignment as well as the first book report. Most students did really well, there were some terrific pieces of work! It was clear some students put lots of thought and work into them!
As well today, students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 6" assignments due on Friday. Tomorrow is the chapter-discussion period. Students, get ready to do some note-taking!

Vendredi, la neige et la pluie, mais pas de tempete...
So, Monsieur Wanie was back at work today. It appears as if some students caused quite a fuss yesterday with Ms. Anastassiadis. There will be some detentions at lunch today! Students: when assigned periods to work on your assignments or projects, that's what you are to do! Several students said that they were finished all their work when in effect they had much to do! What gives?
Anyway, today, students were assigned their latest book report due next Wednesday. Everyone started working on the 25 "vocabulaire" words.
And there's the latest chapter in "Histoire" to complete too! So students began (because not much got done yesterday!) working on it. The due-date is a week today!

Mercredi, le soleil et le vent.
Well, today was the second day Monsieur Wanie had scheduled to take his class (in this case, 86) to see the opera "Sanctuary Song". Despite some disrespectful chatterboxes who would not quiet down during the performance, it was a decent performance. Monsieur Wanie's favourite part had to be when Sydney met up with her old friend Penny at the sanctuary...
In class today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the next chapter in "Histoire", see below.

"Les sujets du roi George s'etablissent"

This morning, Monsieur Wanie walked to the Wychwood Car Barns with 87 to see the opera "Sanctuary Song". It was a pretty decent performance. That Jeremiah guy had a pretty big voice! Tomorrow morning, it's 86's turn to see the performance.
In the afternoon, both 86 and 87 handed-in their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments and had a period to read their French reading novels.

Vendredi, les entrevues.
It has been great to meet with all the parents who came by to discuss students' progress this term. Thank you!
A short note to students: You're all good kids! (Don't let that go to your heads though.) Be sure to keep on top of assignments and due-dates, continue to focus in class, come in early for extra help or extra time with the textbook if you need it, keep track of your to-dos in your agenda and visit the blog once a day, participate in class discussions, and don't procrastinate. Keep up the good work, June will be here before you know it. Oh, and wear a helmet on your bike or skateboard... and stay away from drugs and alcohol... and look both ways before crossing the street... and don't play with matches... and for heaven's sake, be nice to your parents!
As well: Family Day Monday is called Louis Riel Day in Manitoba. Get bonus points for telling us why...

Jeudi, voila la pluie...
So today, Monsieur Wanie assigned a further three questions for the "Sustainable development" assignment. The due-date is Friday, February 24th.
Students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments so as not to have homework over the Family Day weekend. Many students came up for extra help. Katie found a neat website with some interesting information on Riel and historical information on Manitoba.
Here's the link to the homepage:
http://siamandas.com/time_machine/index.html
And the page about Riel and Scott: http://siamandas.com/time_machine/PAGES/early_manitoba/THOMAS_SCOT.htm
Be sure to read with a critical eye. Some points of view may be flawed, biased or may not express the entire truth! Especially what you read on the internet!

Mercredi, ou est le soleil?
Today is the first day after report cards were sent out. Hopefully all parents and guardians who wish to have interviews at Winona have signed up online or with teachers personally.
In the morning Monsieur Wanie collected forms and cash for "The Sanctuary Song".
As well, students had a class discussion on "Sustainable development" and Monsieur Wanie assigned a project that encourages students to reflect on land use and bringing agriculture to the city.

Mardi, la Fete de la Saint Valentin.
Today, students had their Valentine'o'grams delivered... that always causes some excitement. I'm unsure as to why there wasn't as much excitement over the report cards, which were also handed out today!
In other news, students are slowly bringing in the $10 for the "Sanctuary song" field trip...
Regarding class, students did some reading of their French reading books. Students then worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 5" assignments.

Today was the due-date for both "Histoire, Chapitre 4" and "Geographie- les gens au travail". Students handed-in their work and Monsieur Wanie assigned and explained the next "Histoire" unit: "La colonisation de la Riviere Rouge". Monsieur Wanie conducted a lengthy overview and discussion of the chapter. Students participated actively and began working on answering the questions and researching the chapter.

Jeudi, encore une belle journee ensoleillee!
Another sunny day today! In class, students had a couple of periods to work on their "Histoire" and "Geographie" assignments due tomorrow. Some students discussed working conditions in the garment industry for the "Geo" assignment, others went to the library to do some research. Others came for help on the "Histoire" assignment. Some students worked on their book report due Monday.
Wednesday, February 8, 2012
Mercredi, il fais frais mais au moins il fait soleil.
Today, Monsieur Wanie had a discussion with students about how their "Geographie" clothing assignments were going. Many students have done their research to find out about the working conditions in the garment industry... Most reports don't paint a pretty picture of the industry...
Students worked on their "Histoire" assignments as well. Some students were able to go to the library to research the question on why it took until 1949 for Newfoundland to join Confederation...
As well, we all had a visit from some administrators from other schools...

Mardi, humide et gris.
Today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the book report assignment to be based on the French reading books students have been getting into over the last few weeks. The due date is set for Monday the 13th of February. In a class discussion, students worked to post success criteria for this assignment to the whiteboard.
Students also worked on the "Histoire" and "Geographie" assignments that are due on Friday.

Lundi, le beau soleil!
Today was the due date for the "A travers les annees" assignment. Students handed-in some terrific work.
As well, Monsieur Wanie assigned a new "Geographie" project about "people at work". Two questions designed for students to question and compare the state of working conditions in British North America in the 1860s and the working conditions of clothing manufacturing workers in the world today.

Vendredi, gris. Ou est le soleil?
Well, it's been a busy few weeks for students!
Today was the due-date for "Histoire, Chapitre 3", so students handed-in their assignments.
Monsieur Wanie assigned the latest "Histoire" chapter:
"Chapitre 4", "La creation de la confederation".
p100-121 VTC#1,2,4 ATC#2 -A rendre vendredi le 10 fevrier.
Here is a good resource on Newfoundland:

And another on Nova Scotia:

Students, it's true, Wikipedia does have some inaccuracies but nothing grave... keep in mind that the textbook is always the best resource!
Oh, and don't forget, the "A travers les annees" assignment is due on Monday!

Jeudi, encore gris.
Well, another busy day...
Monsieur Wanie went over "Chapitre 3" in "Histoire" to bring some additional details and clarification to the discussion on confederation in British North America. Students have their chapter assignment due tomorrow and hopefully the class discussion will help students achieve a great mark tomorrow!

Mercredi gris et humide...
Both 86 and 87 had a hard-working Wednesday.
In the three periods that students had in homeroom, students worked on their "Histoire, Chapitre 3" that is due on Friday, did some silent reading of their French reading books, and finally, everyone worked on their "A travers les annees" "Geographie" assignment.
Not a real exciting day but a very productive one! (Except perhaps for a few students from 86!)

Mardi, la neige fonds et la pluie reviens.
Today, classes 86 and 87 had their "Histoire" assignments handed back. Most students received decent marks but, as Monsieur Wanie warned, answers must be more complete, include more detail and must not be superficial. To succeed, students must include information gleaned from the chapters, class discussions and other resources...
Students did some reading of their French reading books. As well, Monsieur Wanie assigned the first major "Geographie" assignment of the second term, the "A travers les annees" assignment, (Due on Monday, February 3rd).

Lundi, la neige ce soir?
So, today students "Perspective Box" projects were due, as well as the "Histoire" assignment with the Samuel Cunard poster as a cover page...
Monsieur Wanie was impressed by the many fantastic assignments (Quite a few "A+" were handed out!)... and unfortunately appalled by the fact that some students didn't have their work done after a three-day weekend!
The latest "Hisotire" chapter was assigned, "Chapitre 3". The questions are as follows: VTC #1,2,4 and ATC #4. Due on Friday the 3rd of February. Students began working while Monsieur Wanie had meetings with students about their art and "Histoire" work.

Jeudi gris...
Today, Monsieur Wanie gave a summary lesson of "Histoire, Chapitre 1" for students. It's an interesting chapter that talks about the industrial revolution in British North America during the early to mid 1800s, the influx of colonists, the wheat and wood trade, and the underground railroad.
Later in the day, students worked on their "Forced Perspective" projects.
Students take note: Your "Histoire, Chapitre 1" and "Forced Perspective" projects are both due on Monday!

Mercredi, encore une journee grise.
Just a short word of thanks to students who helped out yesterday at the "Grade 6 Information Night". It was a packed house at Winona. It was great to see so many "prospective clients"!
In class today, students didn't have much time with Monsieur Wanie but still managed to work on their "Croissance et Changement" unit and their "Perspective Box" projects.

Mardi sombre.
Today, students worked on their "Perspective box" projects. Students should take note of the due-date: Monday, January 30th.
As well, students worked on the "Histoire - Croissance et changement" unit.
And Monsieur Wanie conducted a homework check...
Students: Here's a 60 second survey to fill out... it should take 60 seconds of your time. http://bit.ly/AhnQzW

Lundi, la pluie!
Another grey Monday! Well at least students had fun working on their "Perspective box" assignments... and making a mess of the classroom! Hopefully, students will remember to bring all of the necessary supplies to school. Many students have already assembled decent scenes!

Jeudi, la neige arrive t'il?
This morning, students in 86 and 87 had their "Histoire Jumpstart Folder" homework checked. Most students worked very hard to complete the assignment within the timeline alotted.
Monsieur Wanie assigned the latest "Histoire" assignment. "Chapitre 1: Croissance et Changement", questions VTC #1,2,3,6,7 and ATC #5 as the cover page. Due on Monday, January 30th.
For students who wanted a link to information on Samuel Cunard, check this site out! Tons of information on the history and fleet of the Cunard Lines. http://chriscunard.com

Mercredi, le gele apres la pluie.
Today started off with students working on their "Histoire Jump-start" folders and the questions relating to the Rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada.
Later in the day, students worked at their "Perspective box" projects...
Not too stressful of a day! Especially with the sun shining through the class windows!

Mardi pluvieux.
Today, classes began with a peer-correction of their "Test de Grammaire". Hopefully it helped students understand any errors they may have made and gave them some confidence in their own results... Most students did really well!
Later in the day, 86 and 87 worked on their "perspective box" project...
And everyone also had an opportunity to work on the "Histoire Jump-Start" folders.

Vendredi, enfin la neige!
This morning, Monsieur Wanie checked that all students brought their shoe-boxes for the project that starts on Monday. Students began planning their "Pin-hole, forced perspective project" after a lesson on "forced perspective" and the "pin-hole" viewpoint concept.
As well, students worked on their "Histoire jumpstart folder" questions. The questions are due this Thrusday!

Jeudi, la pluie en deluge!
This morning, classes began working on the questions that accompany the "Histoire" jumpstart folders... 26 questions about the Canadian constitutions...
As well, Marcy came in to hand out the "optional attendance" forms and discuss students' futures!
A not so subtle reminder: Students! Bring your shoebox to school tomorrow!!! You will need it for our next art assignment!

Mercredi, un peu de soleil.
Well, today was a busy day!
Students continued reading their French novels.
Monsieur Wanie handed back the "Geographie" #2 keyword assignment. Most students did very well! Lots of work and thought was evident in the assignments.
As well, Monsieur Wanie handed-back the "Les eaux dangeureuses/En motoneige" tests. Again, most were well done.
Students wrote marks for both of these assignments into their agendas.
Monsieur Wanie was working on the first information letter about the Camp Arowhon (sic)trip. The trip will take place between the 11th and 15th of June at a cost of $395... More information to come.

Mardi, un peu gris, mais 3 degrees celsius...
Today, students worked diligently on their "Histoire" homework questions. Students were asked to read the "Pre-Chapter" in the ratty, old (but better written) "Histoire" textbooks. Students have only three questions to complete for homework, due tomorrow (Wednesday).
As well, students were asked to bring a shoebox to school to use in an art project that classes will begin on Monday.
And, at the end of the day, 86 had an opportunity to get back into reading their chosen French reading books.

Lundi, le retour des vacances!
We're back! The end of the first full term is a month away... A little paragraph to think about:
"A successful student is one who pushes past adversity, who is determined and persistent, who has the ability to overcome obstacles and makes no excuses. If you are someone who will do whatever it takes to get something done, you have the capacity to achieve greatness."
Today, Monsieur Wanie assigned the "Pre-Chapter" of "Histiore" and a few questions to go with it due on Wednesday. It speaks of British North America in the 1860s, and Prince Edward Albert's visit to the colony.
As well, students handed-in the keyword assignment from before the break. And a few stragglers handed-in their "Grands Canadiens" assignment.
