Well, today was the last day of school before the Christmas / Holiday... Students in 87 had a little party, and unfortunately, 86 didn't have homeroom in the morning.
Did everyone have fun at the dance in the afternoon?
Hopefully students have a great two weeks off and that everyone stays safe and comes back energized in the New Year! Best wishes kids! (And parents and guardians too!)

Mercredi, la pluie... et il fait sombre!
Today was test-day!! Students in 86 and 87 wrote their French grammar test during one of the morning periods. Most students seemed to have had more than enough time to complete them in the time alotted.
During the afternoon, students had an opportunity to glue their "Grands Canadiens" assignment together and hand it in early. Just briefly looking over them, this appears to be the best year in recent memory with respect to the quality of artwork and the amount of effort put into them! Great job kids!

Well, this morning, students had a presentation that really was quite entertaining. It was a very different take on the issue of bullying...
In the afternoon, some students presented their "Presentation Orale". Today was the last day for in-class presentations. If students didn't present, the only other opportunity is tomorrow morning before 8:30. This is a firm due-date after which no mark will be assigned...
As well, students worked on their "Grands Canadiens" art assignments...

Vendredi, une autre journee grisatre...
Today, many students were absent for the Tour Band walking tour thingy... that left a skeleton crew to post the French grammar answers and work at correcting them with Monsieur Wanie.
Students also had the chance to work on their "Histoire" jump-start folders and "Geographie" keywords.
Hopefully students will be ready for the big French test next week!

Jeudi, la pluie au mois de decembre!
Monsieur Wanie is finally back from two days away. Food poisoning is not a fun thing to deal with! With that, the plan for the last week is somewhat of a mess. The French verb test will have to be postponned until next week to give students time to complete the lead-up study exercises.

Whoo hoo! "Presentation Oral" day! Many students presented fantastic projects! Monsieur Wanie gave out lots of good grades. That said, several students were unprepared and lost marks by choosing to present late, tomorrow morning.
As well, Monsieur Wanie performed a homework-check. Students were to have completed their "Tex and Tammy" assignments as posted to the blog on Thursday. Students were also to have a printed-out picture of their chosen "Grand Canadien"...

Jeudi, toujours le gris...
This morning, a few notables from around the school board came by to check out how cool our students and school are. Hopefully, they got a good idea of the awesomeness of everyone and everything that makes Winona!
With classes, Monsieur Wanie took up the Tex and Tammy homework... Most students did well, however there were still a few who came up with excuses! Students take note: if you are away, it's your responsibility to get your work done. Check the blog, phone a friend, come in early, buy someone lunch, whatever, just get it done! The next homework page (due tomorrow) is the first 12 questions from here: http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/gr/ver2.html
As well, students chose their "Grand Canadien" and had him or her approved by Monsieur Wanie. For homework, students need to write out the little French descriptive paragraph that goes with their chosen person. (due tomorrow). And for Monday the 12th of December, students must have a picture of their person printed out in order to do begin the artwork.
Later in the day, students worked on a note-taking exercise using the "Histoire" jump-start folders...

Today, classes 86 and 87 went to the "Choices for nine" assembly that had been cancelled last week. Unfortunately, the information sheet about the parent presentation of "Choices for nine" tonight, should have gone home earlier. Apologies to parents for the late notice!
Students began an "Histoire" mapping assignment that will help in understanding the establishment of the provinces from British North America to the current map of Canada that includes Nunavut...
As well, students had another period to read their French novel: "La nuit mouvementee de Rachel".

Mercredi, le gris et le vent.
Today, students continued with their "Geographie" keyword definitions. Most students are doing a great job of researching the chapter.
Some students took the opportunity to finish off their 30 French verb sentences.
And finally, students began reading the latest French reading book, "La nuit mouvementee de Rachel"...

Mardi, il fait frais le matin, l'hiver arrive bientot!
This morning, 87 worked on organizing their file folders, making sure all their assignments are tidy and complete.
86 and 87 both began working on the "Geographie, Chapitre 2" keywords.
And last thing in the afternoon, Monsieur Wanie handed back the "Le galop du Templier" tests to 87 and went over them with the class to make corrections.

Vendredi, la pluie encore!
Today, there were several students in early finishing-up on their "Le galop du Templier" tests. Then classes watched "Les Incroyable" (sic)... did you notice the grammar error in the French title? Anyway, 86 and 87 seemed to like watching the movie in French with the English subtitles...
Lastly in the day, students in 86 did a quick review exercise using the -er, -ir and -re verbs...
Hopefully, all students have a fun and safe weekend!

Jeudi, la pluie et le gris...
This morning was a bit messy, students were supposed to have their "Choices for nine" presentation but it was cancelled at the last minute due to both the double-booking of the cafeteria and gym... So, 86 had their "Le galop du Templier" test in the morning, and 87 had theirs in the afternoon...

Mercredi, chez Robin des Bois.
Today, students in grade 8 classes spent the whole day outside at Camp Robin Hood. It was great that the rain held off and that kids could do all their activities out in the fresh air!

Mardi, le soleil avant la pluie!
Well, did everyone had a great long weekend? It was sunny and warm out so hopefully students spent some time outside and away from their Xboxes!
The zoning assignment was due today. Students handed them in and class continued with an assisted reading of "Le galop du Templier"...
Just a note: Students should be checking the blog daily for news, due-dates and information! There are no excuses for not being aware of assignment hand-in dates!

Vendredi, le soleil pour la fin de semaine!
This morning, Monsieur Wanie handed-back the "Il fait quoi ton papa" tests and went over the questions with the class. Most students did really well and made Monsieur Wanie proud. Students who did not do so well just need to concentrate a bit more!
Later in the morning, students worked on their "Le galop du templier" reading assignment.
And finally, students worked on their French grammar assignment from last week and made some slight corrections with Monsieur Wanie on the white boards.
For those who celebrate Thanksgiving, have a great long weekend! For everyone else, have a great long weekend too! Everybody play safely!

Monsieur Wanie handed-back the "Sonson et le volcan" tests this morning. Most students did really well and made Monsieur Wanie proud. Students who received a mark of 20/30 or below must get their agendas signed at home.
As well, Monsieur Wanie went over the "Il fait quoi ton papa?" story with the class in preparation for the quiz on Wednesday.

Jeudi, encore la pluie! C'est bien pour les plantes!
Well, today it was great to see that a few students came in early for some extra help and extra time to work on the "Sonson" tests!
During class, lots of paperwork... Some students handed back their Camp Robin Hood forms, Monsieur Wanie handed out the students records index cards to be verified at home and brought back...
Students worked on their perspective drawings, began working on a "Geographie" zoning assignment and wrapped-up the day with some work on a short French reading assignment.

Today was test day for 86 and 87. Students worked hard at the "Sonson et le Volcan" test... Looking over them, it seems most students did really well!
Students then worked on their perspective art drawings and finally some verb work with -re and -ir verbs...
As well, classes elected presidents and vice-presidents to represent them on the school council (or, apparently, rather "global" council).

Today, students had a last period to read the "Sonson et le volcan" books before the test. Students read and worked on the questions...
As well, students worked on their perspective art assignments and used a few pointers Monsieur Wanie made to fine tune everything...
Not a really exciting day in homeroom, probably because students worked hard and were focused!

Well, the end of last week was a bit messy, what with Monsieur Wanie absent on Thursday, the Terry Fox run on Friday morning and the dance in the afternoon... Never-the-less, students worked on their "Carte Politique du Canada" as well as their "Sonson et le volcan" reading books...
Today, students had some time to work on the maps again as well as some more time to read their French reading books before Monsieur Wanie did some assisted reading of the novel...

Today, Monsieur Wanie handed back the "Ratatouille" test and students went over it to make corrections... Most students did very well. They noted their marks in their agendas. Students awarded a mark of 12/25 or lower were asked to get their agendas signed.
It was "Hand-in" day for the triple picture assignment, so students piled them on Monsieur Wanie's desk for marking.
As well, students started work on a "Carte du Canada politique" map in "Geographie".
Monsieur Wanie will not be at work tomorrow, so he explained the detailed day-plan he left behind for students and the supply...

Later, students worked on the first chapter "Geographie" key-words and brainstormed about constants in human geography and the development and growth of cities and suburbs. Vendredi, le beau ciel bleu.
It was great to meet all the parents who came by on "Meet-the-teacher / Curriculum Night" yesterday evening! It's obvious that the great students in Monsieur Wanie's classes are due to caring and involved parents! For those who missed yesterday night, feel free to drop by any morning to say hi or write a quick email to: andrew.wanie@tdsb.on.ca
In class, 86 and 87 both worked on the key-word exercise in "Geographie". As well, 87 had a bit more time to work on their "Ratatouille" test...
86 had their first swim class, it was good to see almost all students participated! 87, you have pool on Monday! Don't forget your stuff!

Le soleil et un peu de vent...
Today, both 86 and 87 wrote their "Ratatouille" quiz. It seemed as if everyone did well, working hard and with care.
86 began using their sparkling new "Geographie" textbooks. Students scanned through the first chapter, that deals with constants in human geography, searching out keywords and defining them.
Just a reminder that this evening at 6pm is Curriculum Night at Winona.
As well, 86, you have swimming tomorrow! Bring your stuff!

Mercredi, la mi-semaine!
Well, today was not a tough one for most students! Classes watched the movie "Ratatouille"... Hopefully everyone had a chance to research the movie a bit from home. There will be a 25 question French quiz about it tomorrow!
As well, tomorrow night is Curriculum Night, hopefully all parents can attend and pop by to say "Bonjour" to Monsieur Wanie.

Le soleil ce matin et la pluie cet apres midi?
Test day! Students in 86 and 87 wrote the test on their "La peur de ma vie" reading books. A few students made the error of communicating with their neighbours and had their test sheets taken away. Those students may be given an opportunity to re-write their quiz tomorrow morning at 8:15. Everyone else seemed to have done a great job of following the instructions and completing the test.
Maybe tomorrow's class will be a little less pressure, we'll see!
PS: Parents, Winona's curriculum night is this Thursday at 6pm!

Today, 86 and 87 began work on their "ideal neighbourhood" assignment, the first assignment of the "Geographie" program.
Students, be warned, tomorrow is the "La peur de ma vie" quiz!
Students in 86, note that Friday is your first pool class! Bring your stuff or a note from home if you have a reason for not participating or you will be borrowing a suit from someone else in order to be in the water as part of the class!

Jeudi, le 8 septembre...
Well, today was a busy day for both 86 and 87. Monsieur Wanie started students off on an art assignment as well as a reading assignment.
The art one went well, with students beginning to draw rectangles from a 3D perspective.
The reading assignment did not go so well... even when warned, students failed to properly read and question the meaning of the story they were reading... Students: beware! This is grade 8, we no longer read "kiddie books". Everything we read in class this year will require you to reflect on and question what you're reading for a deeper purpose. And, yes, it will be difficult. But you are a smart bunch, you can handle it and you will be successful!

Mercredi, le 7 septembre, une nouvelle annee scolaire !
A huge welcome to students to the 2011-2012 school year!
Today, Wednesday, is the second official school day of the year.
Already, classes 86 and 87 have been working hard getting through the mountain of paper-work, money dealings and beginning-of-the-school-year stuff.
Students in both classes have chosen their lockers and most have filled them with the necessary supplies for the year. In class, Monsieur Wanie has assigned an introductory French/Art activity and done some "exciting" verb review... Both classes 86 and 87 have demonstrated the necessary positive attitude, and Monsieur Wanie is looking forward to another successful year!

Mardi apres la ceremonie!
Well, fast forward to today, the day after graduation...
Monsieur Wanie was so pleased to see all his students dressed impeccably and behaving like the young adults they have become. It's been a long year, full of ups and downs, lots of work and a few laughs... but through it all, Monsieur Wanie has only become more and more proud of the accomplishments of his students in 86 and 87.
Kids, and I'll say this from the first person perspective: It's been an honour teaching you (and at times learning from you too!). I wish you the all the best in your future endeavours, from high school onwards. Stay safe, have fun, never stop learning or being thankful for all the wonderful things most of us take for granted. You truly have it all at your fingertips, don't squander the opportunities that present themselves to you and "follow the white rabbit"!
Congratulations on a great year: 86 and 87, and thank you.
Wanie, out.

Mercredi, un peu de pluie pour la derniere semaine...
Today, Monsieur Wanie didn't see much of his classes again. Banner work for one class and music all afternoon!
Notable today, students received a diploma of congratulations from the Legislative Assembly...

So, Monsieur Wanie didn't see much of his extended classes today... with students in the pool and at music... Some work was done on the banner but not much. Hopefully tomorrow...

Vendredi, la derniere journee avant Arowhon!
So, today is the last day before students go to Arowhon next week. The blog will be on pause due to Monsieur Wanie's inability to report remotely from Algonquin Provincial Park...
At school today, much like yesterday, students worked away on the banner in order to get as close to finishing it as possible before the weekend.
In the late afternoon, Monsieur Ferron and Monsieur Wanie held a meeting with students to remind them of the rules and details pertaining to the Arowhon trip.
Hopefully, everyone has a good weekend and takes some time to carefully pack their gear!!

Well, we're slowly winding down the school year. Still, students must follow the school rules and participate in all activities provided...

Wow, it's hot in the school! But despite the heat, students in 86 and 87 worked all day on the banner, adding colour and detail...
And students witnessed one of the most "remarkable" performances in the gym just before lunch... not sure how else to qualify it. Apparently it was related to Aboriginal Week...

Mardi, le beau temps apres la tempete de la matinee!
This morning, students had a few more minutes to work on their "French Folders" before handing them in.
Everyone then went to work on the banner in the hall before being interrupted by a fire drill...
Later in the day, students continued working on the banner. Hopefully, students will be able to start with the colour in earnest tomorrow!
As well, on an note Monsieur Wanie feels terribly uncomfortable even having to mention: Students must remember that the school has a dress code. Both girls and boys must wear appropriate clothing at Winona. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOUR UNDERWEAR! So, boys, pull your pants up and girls, no spaghetti-straps, midriff bearing clothing or "booty-shorts" please! YUCK!

Vendredi, le soleil brille et il fait beau!
Today was hand-in day for the "Ma Revue de 8e Annee" project! Unfortunately only 12 people in 86 and 9 people in 87 had their work done by the deadline! Fortunately, those that did, had some great work to show. Students had the opportunity to "show and tell", trading magazines with their friends...
Students also worked on their banner, both classes having come up with totally different but equally cool ideas through which to express themselves...
And at the same time as all of this, some students were out of class running and swimming in the Winona Biathlon...

So, a bit windy today!
Students in both classes started the day with a quick check-in with Monsieur Wanie to show off their magazine progress thus far...
Later in the day classes 86 and 87 began their "year end art project". The class was given a piece of banner paper roughly 6 metres is length with which to express, as a class, their feelings as we near the end of the year...

Hopefully, students worked hard.
Friday due-date for the "Revue de
8e Annee"!
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Mardi, le beau temps!
This is the last week for the Winona pool this year, and still, Monsieur Wanie had to remind several students that their participation in the Arowhon trip was dependent on their willingness to participate in all scheduled school activities!
In class, students worked on their "Ma Revue de 8e Annee" magazine projects and "French folders". It's getting down to crunch time! All of these assignments need to be handed-in on time.
Students, note :
1. All due-dates from now until the end of the year are firm due-dates!
2. Early morning presentations or assisntance in Monsieur Wanie's room
are "by appointment only" from now until the end of June.

Lundi, le beau temps est de retour!
Hey, what happened to Friday's post? Hmmm. Not sure...
Anyway, it's Monday, the start to another week of work! A few students came in early again to present their oral presentations...
Today, students in 86 and 87 focused on their magazine assignments and French folders.
Monsieur Wanie clarified a few details of the "Ma Revue de 8e Annee" project when 86 lobbied to have the page number requirement lowered to a maximum of 10 pages double-sided... so 20 sides, 6 sides of which are already taken up by the title page, and the five other required pages... Once again, this is a reminder that the firm due-date for this project is this Friday, June 3rd!

Jeudi, le retour de la pluie.
So today, 87 worked on their "Revue de 8e Annee" projects first thing in the morning and then their French folders just before lunch...
In the afternoon, 86 had the opportunity to work on their French folders.
Day 3 is one of those days that Monsieur Wanie only gets to see his homeroom kids for three periods, so not too much to report!
Students note: the "Revue de 8e Annee" assignment is due a week tomorrow!
As well, students should note that if they have failed to hand overdue assignments or do presentations, they should come in before 8:30!

Mercredi, deja la mi-semaine!
Today, students continued working on their "Ma Revue de 8e Annee" projects... As well, students assembled a new French folder, chapters 5 and 7, and began working on them. Several students also presented their overdue "Histoire, projet orale".

Mardi, une tempete possible?
Back from the long weekend! Hopefully everyone had fun, stayed safe and enjoyed the weather.
Today was presentation-day for students in 86 and 87. Students gave their speeches on their place of historic significance. Most students did really well and have reason to be proud!
As well, Monsieur Wanie had students in 86 go over their file folders once again to make sure all assignments are completed...

Jeudi, la brume, et le debut de la longue fin de semaine.
Well, it's been a rainy week! Everyone is getting a little stir-crazy!
Students today were treated to the watching of the second in the "Indiana Jones" series... "The Temple of Doom", in French "Le Temple Maudit"...
Hopefully, all students will have their "Histoire" presentations ready for the firm due-date on Tuesday, and that everyone has started working on their "Revue de 8e annee"!

Mercredi, toujours de la pluie!
This morning, a few students came in early to discuss their "interim marks" with Monsieur Wanie. Several students were asked to get their mark sheets signed and brought back to school. For others, phone calls and meetings were made or arranged.
As well, there was the UofT survey handout to get signed for people who were willing to participate.
Monsieur Wanie also introduced the "Ma Revue de 8e Annee" project, a magazine assignment that counts towards both French and Art marks...

Mardi, gris.
Well, today a few students came in early to hand-in some "Histoire" assignments that are overdue...
During the day, classes worked on their overdue assignments, many students went to the computer lab to research their "Histoire" projects. Students worked on the outline for their "Histoire, projet orale" and Monsieur Wanie gave students a "heads-up" on what their report card marks may look like a month and a half from now. PS Any students who had preliminary marks below 60% must have their outline sheets signed.

Lundi, une fin de semaine de pluie.
Today was pretty frustrating for Monsieur Wanie. Three quarters of both 86 and 87 failed to hand-in their "Histoire, Prise 2", the final chapter of "Histoire" for the year... Geez kids, you've had tons of time and help on this chapter! Get it done! And what about the missing assignments in your file/folder?

Vendredi, c'est la fin de la semaine!
Today, class 86 had some time on the computers in the library to research their "Projet d'Histoire", many students finished choosing their subjects and printed out information or sent pertinent links to themselves...
87 had a single homeroom period to work on their "Histoire, Prise 2".

Mercredi, le soleil et le vent!
Well, another busy day!
A couple students were in early to present their "Projet Oral".
During the day, students were working away on their "Histoire, Prise 2". Several students are still working on the overdue "Histoire, Chapitre 12". And many have yet to choose the subject of their "Projet d'Histoire".

Mardi, re-soleil.
So today, once again, students had an opportunity to work on assignments that desperately need to be handed-in. Monsieur Wanie has made much progress towards compiling marks for the year-end reports...
Students were to have selected their "Projet d'Histoire" subject by now, although there are still a few weeks before that due-date.
And a reminder that "Histoire, Prise 2" is due on Monday, 16th May.
Dufferin and Davenport looks pretty different back then!

Lundi, une bonne semaine de soleil prevu...
So... this morning was the presentation-date for the "Projet oral". Today, many students did very well, with decent presentations and beautiful posters! Surprisingly, several students declined or refused to present their assignments and received a zero... not cool.
As well, today was the due-date for "Histoire, Chapitre 12". Students handed-in their work by placing it into their files in the sitckered filing cabinet.
Anyone going here next year?

Vendredi, le soleil, la pluie, le soleil?
Today, due to Monsieur Wanie's absence, Abelio took the class and followed the day plan left behind. Students were encouraged to work on their "Histoire, Chapitre 12" as well as "Histoire, Prise 2". Some students chose to work on their presentations due on Monday as well as finishing up on missing assignments for the files.

Mercredi, du vent pour faire disparaitre la pluie!
Today, students in 86 and 87 had two periods each to work on the "Histoire, Chapitre 12".
Monsieur Wanie also discussed yesterday's assembly with students to highlight some of the issues students and teachers face in a world where people seem so focused on themselves...
The report card program has "gone live" so students should be aware that teachers are already starting to compile marks for the end of the year! Graduation is not too far off, taking into account that there's a week off for music camp, a week off for Arowhon and the last week after grad were few grade 8s show up!

Vendredi, le gris a la fin de semaine.
Well, a decent week at Winona, with the talent show, some movie-watching, some "Histoire", oral and art project work...
Speaking of which, the "Projet d'Art" is due today. Monsieur Wanie is looking forward to seeing some of the great artwork classes 86 and 87 are capable of... indeed most students handed-in their assignments but there were a glaring number of missing ones too! Students, it was a firm due-date! Keep up with your responsibilities!

Today is the "talent" show! Hopefully, Monsieur Wanie doesn't have to play the role of Simon Cowell! As it turned out, there were quite a few decents performances!
Later in the day, 86 was able to finish watching Indiana Jones. Students had their preliminary oral project work checked and then continued working on "Histoire, Chapitre 11".
Students, a reminder that Arowhon money is due by the latest, on Monday! And that yearbook comment forms are way overdue!

The Easter long weekend is almost here!
Today, students had two periods to finish off their "Histoire Chapitre 10" before the four-day long weekend. Hopefully, this way, students will have a little time to hang out with family and friends without the pressures of school... That said, many students still have past assignments that still need to be completed or filed...
As well, in the afternoon, there was a massed-band rehearsal: students in all directions, making music... cool. (get the double meaning?)

This morning, students in 86 and 87 had their French "Presentation Orale" subjects approved...
And classes had the opportunity to work and ask questions about "Histoire, Chapitre 10". It's an interesting chapter that deals with the industrial revolution and the effect it had on workers and working conditions during the period between 1867 and 1920 in Canada.
Students also worked on their art assignment rough copies. Students need to choose a best version to show Monsieur Wanie on Wednesday in order to begin the good copy over the long weekend!

So, this morning, there were many students in early handing-in assignments and making sure their files in the filing cabinet were in order. During the day, students worked on their rough copies of their art assignment. Students had chosen an artist from the list provided by Monsieur Wanie and printed out images the style of which they were tasked with emulating. Students had a period to finish up and clean up their files prior to meeting individually with Monsieur Wanie for a mid-semester evaluation and discussion. Ken Done

Yesterday, students also spent some time organising their files in the filing cabinet... Students will be having individual "progress meetings" with Monsieur Wanie next week during class so students can be advised on how they are doing on the lead-up to the report cards at the end of the year...
Today, students handed-in their "Histoire, Chapitre 9".
As well, students were reminded that the "Carte du Monde Politique" and book report background page are due on Monday.
Also, students need to have their 2-5 pictures printed out for their selected artist so classes can begin the art project...

Vendredi, amene la fin de semaine!
Alexander CalderSo, today, Monsieur Wanie assigned a bit of over-the-weekend homework. It's a bit unusual for students to have work to do between Friday and Monday but that's the way it is. The first assignment is to do some research on the list artists to find out what their respective styles are. Then, students must choose one artist's style to emulate, download 2 to 5 examples of their art to use when creating their own piece of artwork. The second assignment is a book report, written skipping lines on both sides of one piece or regular lined three-ring binder paper about something tangential to the French novel they have read or are reading... This morning, students in both 86 and 87 began reading their French novels. There were many students in 87 who totally forgot to get a book out of the library! Pay attention to your assignments kids! In the afternoon, 87's pool period was cancelled, so those students came to Monsieur Wanie's class and worked on their "Carte du monde politique" or read their French novels...

So, this morning, Michelle and Ella won the prize for yesterday's challenge... All the artists are related by the fact that they all painted a BMW car for the BMW Art Car Project. Today was the due-date for the last "Chapitre de Geographie". Students placed their assignments in their files in the stickered filing cabinet and contiuned working on the latest "Histoire, Chapitre 8".
As well, Monsieur Wanie assigned the first part of the latest art project. Students had to copy down the names of 18 artists and ifgure out what one thing they all have in common. The first person from each class, receives a small prize!

Today, many students were absent due to the choir festival um, thingy. Never the less, it was crunch time for both 86 and 87. Their "Projet de journal" is due this afternoon! Students were cramming to get it done, in fact Monsieur Wanie was both surprised and pleased to have almost a full class of dedicated students working in their groups at 8:15 this morning!
As well this morning students were handed their yearbook comment forms (yes, it is that close to the end of the year!) and their grad photos.
In the afternoon, both classes had a last period to work on their "Projet de journal" before handing them in.
Spring is almost sprung! Students, be careful playing outside over the weekend! Mosnieur Wanie has already observed many skateboarders unaware of traffic!

Today, all students participated in the Honour Roll assembly. Many students received certificates, a select group of five others were awarded certificates for the Principal's list. As well, the "Students in Good Standing" concept was introduced. The idea is that every student who does well in class, is a model student, good with his or her peers, and arrives on time to school and ready to learn should be able to achieve "Good Standing".
Later in the morning, Monsieur Wanie went over the last "Geographie, Chapter 14" questions with students. As well, class 87 made paper cranes for a display to show their "well wishes" for the people of Japan, following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

That left students to work with Monsieur Rowinsky and the supply on their "Projet de journal" and "Geographie, Chapitre 14".
Hopefully the group in the library worked well, and the other in the outer-hall too.
As well, students put their "Histoire, Chapitre 7" in their files in the stickered filing cabinet, it was due today.

Mardi, le soleil pour la moto!
Today, 86 and 87 worked on the "Projet de journal" in class. Groups were assigned small bonus progress marks during the period. Monsieur Wanie hopes that this way he can help guide students in their work ethic... the idea is to make a little headway each day instead of getting everything done the night before the due-date!
Later in the day, students worked on their "Geographie, Chapitre 13" due on Friday. And in the afternoon, students worked on "Histoire, Chapitre 7" that is due on Monday.

Lundi, le printemps est la!
We're back! Hopefully everyone had a safe and fun vacation. It's the last push towards the end of the year, and it will go quickly!
Today, Monsieur Wanie went over the outlines for the "Geographie" due Friday and the "Histoire" due on Monday. Students worked on both as well as on the "Journal" (that's newspaper) project...
Classes were reminded that a strong work ethic with a minimum of time-wasting is necessary during classroom and group activities, 87 is pretty chatty lately!

Jeudi, deuxieme journee de pluie!
Today, 87 worked on their "A la gare" French folders first thing in the morning.
Then Monsieur Wanie outlined the latest big project. It's a cross-curricular activity, that incorporates French, Art, "Geographie" and "Histoire" into one assignment... to create a newspaper (un journal). Monsieur Wanie showed some examples from past years and students had a period to nail down their groups and come up with some preliminary ideas, then another period to further their ideas from talk into action.
In the afternoon, 86 had one period to work on their "Projet de Journal" and ended their day in the pool!

And the students that remained, worked on their French folder in the morning and their "Histoire" and "Geographie" in the afternoon...
As well, class 86 started brainstorming for a group-newspaper (Le Journal) project...
A pretty quiet day all in all! Maybe everyone is just looking forward to Spring Break!?

Today, classes 86 and 87 worked on their French folders. Students should be getting close to finishing the last questions in their notebooks by now...
As well, Monsieur Wanie had discussions with both classes about "Geographie, Chapitre 13", due-date below. The chapter discusses the effects of migration on culture. Some pretty interesting stuff!
